NRG defeated EDG at the VALORANT Champions 2025 tournament. After the match, ZmjjKK talked about the errors the team made.
EDward Gaming (EDG) lost their first match at VALORANT Champions 2025, facing off against NRG. After the game, the team and their coach discussed what went wrong and what they need to work on before their next important match against Team Liquid, which will determine if they stay in the competition.
Map rotation and Sage’s comeback to the meta
Following recent improvements to Sage, EDG coach Tang “Muggle” Shijun discussed how the changes better fit the team’s approach to the game. He explained that Sage’s ability to quickly place walls from a distance enhances EDG’s signature “fast-paced and precise” gameplay. While acknowledging Sage’s strengths, the coach also noted she isn’t quite as adaptable as some other Sentinel agents.
EDG decided to play on the Abyss map instead of banning it, believing it favored attackers. Their coach explained that while the map doesn’t require teams to control large areas, it’s very hard to regain control once the opposing team has it.
Jieni7’s international debut
I was so excited to see Jieni7 make his international debut at VALORANT Champions 2025 with EDG on September 13th! He said after the match that he’s already thinking about how to improve for the next one, and that the team needs to make a few tweaks before their next games. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they come up with!
As EDG played their first game of the tournament, the team knew they needed time to get used to the venue and the speed of the competition. ZmjjKK, the 2024 Champions winner, explained they were taking things one step at a time. He acknowledged the team’s performance wasn’t what they’d hoped for, and that the result was their own responsibility. He also suggested they often start slowly, which may have contributed to the outcome.
After their defeat, ZmjjKK admitted they didn’t play their best and made errors that cost them the match. He expressed excitement about the chance to compete against Team Liquid next time, noting they are a strong and respected team from China.
