Clifton Powell openly mentions the name of the person he claims let him go, due to his involvement with the 2005 musical “The Gospel.
The actor, in an interview last week on YouTube’s “The Art of Dialogue,” revealed that at the time, his agent was Jeff Witjas from APA. He shared that Jeff had called him, questioning if he was once again taking on a smaller film with a Black cast. The actor responded firmly, stating he indeed was working on another such project as he had a family to support. After expressing his determination, he ended the call abruptly. Subsequently, he was released from his contract.

Ego Nwodim, who became a part of ‘Saturday Night Live’ back in 2018, is set to depart from the series. This move marks another change within the cast as the show prepares for its Season 51 premiere this autumn.
Witjas did not respond immediately Friday to The Times’ request for comment.
Known for being one of Hollywood’s versatile supporting actors, Powell, now 69 years old, is rapidly approaching 300 acting credits in his impressive career. He has graced screens in Academy Award-winning films such as the 2004 biopic “Ray,” critically acclaimed productions like the 1993 crime drama “Menace II Society,” and blockbuster hits like the 1998 comedy “Rush Hour.
During his professional journey, Powell has consistently chosen his roles without letting them be influenced by his representation. Instead, he makes his project selections based on counsel Jamie Foxx shared with him in the past.
He implied, “Clif Powell, ensure you maintain a connection with your community…”, meaning maintain connections with your community as various groups such as African Americans, young white and Asian individuals, Latinos, and women have contributed to making him a well-known figure in many households.

Despite an initial setback with a prominent talent agency, it didn’t halt the progress of Powell’s acting career as evidenced by his active profile on IMDb. Despite this, he has been able to maintain his career and support his family financially. However, there are certain roles that his personal values have prevented him from accepting: those portraying gay characters.
Powell stated, ‘I’m not advocating for aggression. Instead, there are certain things that make me uneasy.’
In a role that suited him perfectly, he appeared in the dystopian music video for “California Love” by 2Pac, with his character being first presented as “Monster” by the distinctive voice of Chris Tucker at a higher pitch.
