What is “Demon Slayer”?

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” is an anime adaptation from the manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, set in Japan during the Taisho era. The story revolves around Tanjiro Kamado, a compassionate teenager who is the eldest son of a charcoal-making family. During one trip away from home, he comes back to find his entire family brutally murdered, except for his younger sister Nezuko, who has been transformed into a demon (oni) with a taste for human flesh and sensitivity to sunlight.
This results in him meeting a fellow member of the Demon-Slaying Unit, a group of combatants dedicated to exterminating powerful beings. Consequently, Tanjiro is assigned for training to join their ranks as a demon slayer, enabling him to embark on his mission to discover a means to transform his sister back into a human.
The manga titled “Demon Slayer” was published in installments weekly in Shonen Jump magazine between 2016 and 2020, eventually being compiled into a total of 23 volumes. Meanwhile, an anime adaptation by Ufotable debuted in 2019, consisting of 63 episodes across four seasons. Notably, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle” serves as a direct follow-up to the TV series, continuing the narrative from where the fourth season concluded.
Who are the demon slayers?

In a nutshell, “Demon Slayer” centers around Tanjiro Kamado, a teenager who belongs to the Demon Slayer Corps. His mission is to find a method to restore his younger sister to her human form. He possesses a keen nose and an exceptionally heartfelt empathy.
Tanjiro’s younger sibling, Nezuko, underwent a transformation into a demonic being, yet she doesn’t consume human flesh for sustenance but rather recharges through sleep. Utilizing her augmented abilities from her demon form, she assists Tanjiro in safeguarding humans and combating other demons. Often found residing within Tanjiro’s wooden knapsack when not in use, Nezuko plays an integral role in their joint efforts.
During their journey, the siblings formed friendships with members of the Demon Slayer Corps – Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira. Zenitsu, who is extremely timid and fearful, becomes an exceptional swordsman when he is asleep. On the other hand, Inosuke, who grew up among wild animals, is impulsive, overconfident, and always keen to engage in fights to demonstrate his superior fighting skills.

The new second One Piece Cafe has been opened in Little Tokyo, drawing enthusiasts to a district that’s still recuperating after the ICE protests in June.
Additionally, Tanjiro encounters esteemed Demon Slayer Corps members referred to as the Hashira, including figures like Giyu Tomioka – a reserved warrior who welcomed Tanjiro into their ranks, Shinobu Kocho – a skilled healer, Tengen Uzui – a flamboyant ninja with multiple spouses, Muichiro Tokito – an enigmatic prodigy, and Mitsuri Kanroji – a strong-bodied dreamer.
The majority of Demon Slayer Corps members are proficient in unique martial art techniques called “breathing styles,” which enhance their power, endurance, agility, and other abilities.
The Demon Slayer Corps is spearheaded by the Ubuyashiki family, who established this very organization.
What about the demons?

As a film enthusiast, I’d put it this way: In the captivating world of “Demon Slayer,” the fearsome oni – these near-immortal beings – boast an array of superhuman powers, including extraordinary strength and rapid healing. However, they have some vulnerable spots, like sunlight and wisteria plants. With a unique sword, the one wielded by demon slayers, they can be decisively defeated, even through decapitation. These demons are notorious for feeding on humans, growing stronger with each consumption. Saddening is that most of them have lost their human memories due to this relentless cycle of violence and consumption.
Muzan Kibutsuji, a merciless ruler of demons, was once a human who transformed into a demon himself. His unique ability to turn other humans into demons upon giving them his blood sets him apart as the first. The Twelve Kizuki, Muzan’s most formidable demon servants, have seen some of their ranks diminished by Tanjiro and companions, with Rui, Enmu, Gyutaro, Daki, Gyokko, and Hantengu being among those defeated thus far.
Muzan’s goal is to become truly immortal by overcoming all of the known weaknesses of demons.

As a die-hard fan of Demon Slayer, I’m thrilled to share that the latest addition to our beloved franchise is here! It’s titled “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle.” This film marks the beginning of a trilogy, delving into the final chapters of the series. If you remember, it’s the second original feature-length movie from Demon Slayer, hot on the heels of last year’s blockbuster hit, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train,” which was one of 2020’s standout films. So buckle up, fellow fans, it’s time for another thrilling ride in the Demon Slayer world!
The story continues in ‘Infinity Castle,’ immediately following the dramatic events of the fourth season, where Tanjiro and his comrades faced rigorous training at the Hashira-led camps, gearing up for their ultimate battle against Muzan Kibutsuji and his demon forces.

Can I watch “Infinity Castle” without having seen any other “Demon Slayer” before?

Engaging with the content could be likened to tuning into a popular TV series towards its final episodes. The level of satisfaction you derive from it may hinge on your appreciation for captivating, animated battle scenes.
Why is “Demon Slayer” so popular?
The increasing impact of anime in mainstream entertainment can be seen through the surge in popularity of “Demon Slayer.” Though the manga was mostly praised, the TV series amplified its visibility even further. With platforms like Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu making anime more readily available to viewers than before, it’s no wonder that shows like “Demon Slayer” have gained such significant attention.
The show, Demon Slayer, has gained acclaim for its spectacular visuals and exhilarating action scenes. However, its widespread appeal can also be attributed to its compelling characters and narrative. For instance, Tanjiro is a relatable protagonist, exhibiting empathy even in the face of personal tragedy. Despite his own hardships, he remains dedicated to what’s right and sees the good in everyone, including demons who were once societal outcasts. His tenacity is particularly relevant during times of global unrest.
