Political analyst Matthew Dowd has parted ways with MSNBC following controversial remarks he made about Charlie Kirk, a prominent young conservative activist, who tragically passed away on Wednesday.
Following the tragic incident where Kirk was fatally shot during a speech at Utah Valley State University, Dowd explained to MSNBC’s Katy Tur that “toxic thoughts can breed harmful words, eventually culminating in harmful deeds.

Kirk, an influential figure who stood firm with Trump and was well-known among extreme right-wing circles, tragically lost his life during a shooting incident while he addressed a large audience at Utah Valley University.
Instantly, social media erupted with strong reactions following Dowd’s comments, which implied that Kirk’s long-standing provocative statements might have contributed to the shooting incident.
MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler issued an apology Wednesday night.

According to reports, Dowd was disconnected from the network, as per an informed source who was not allowed to speak publicly about it.
Later, on Bluesky, Dowd expressed sympathies to Charlie Kirk’s family and friends, stating that he was prompted to respond to a question about the current situation. He regrets the harshness of his words and wants to make it clear that he in no way meant to imply that Kirk was responsible for this terrible incident. His comments were not intended as blame.
Dowd, previously known for his role as the primary strategist in George W. Bush’s victorious 2004 presidential re-election bid, subsequently left the Republican Party out of discontent over Bush’s management of the Iraq War.
