Viewers are questioning whether Netflix’s animated series, “Wolf King,” will continue with a third season after its upcoming second season, set to premiere on September 12, 2025. With the storyline of Season 2 already planned, there is speculation as to whether it will bring the tale to a close.
Here’s what we know about Wolf King Season 3.
Has Netflix canceled Wolf King Season 3 or renewed it?
Netflix announced plans for a 16-episode adaptation of Wolf King, with the series set to conclude after its second season.
The Wolf King is a spectacular animated fantasy, inspired by the six-book Wereworld series penned by Curtis Jobling. This production features an impressive ensemble cast consisting of Ceallach Spellman, Nina Barker-Francis, Paterson Joseph, Rasmus Hardiker, and Kate Fleetwood.
In the animated series, directed by Tom Brass, a British production, follows the story of Drew Ferran (Spellman). This ordinary man learns he’s not just any human but the last werewolf and the legitimate ruler of Lyssia. The first season delved into his lineage exploration, while the second promises to unravel the challenges that come with this newfound destiny. As Drew prepares to confront these burdens, he’ll find himself battling to regain his kingdom from the oppressive rule of the Lionlords.
In the second season, we find Drew immediately following the earlier events, managing to evade King Leopold. He reconnects with his biological mother, Queen Amelie, who had been in a trance throughout this period. Accompanied by allies such as Lady Gretchen and Hector, he embarks on the ship named Maelstrom. With the potential to become a ruler, Drew is now tasked with confronting King Leopold and shouldering the duties that come with his destiny.
Initially, the TV series was primarily about a teen’s journey of self-discovery. However, as the story progresses, it will take on a darker tone, similar to the later books in the series that contained detailed depictions of werewolf transformations, torture, and other violent scenes with graphic details. Despite this, the show has chosen to cater to a younger audience by shifting focus from gory themes towards political ones. The book series spans six novels, richly developing its world, which the TV show compresses into just two seasons.
The story of Wolf King will conclude with Season 2, which you can stream on September 11, 2025.
