This past week, Sabrina Carpenter chose to honor a different influential female musician in her style, following earlier appearances that mimicked Madonna and Britney Spears’ styles.
At the MTV Video Music Awards after-party in New York City on Sunday, the artist known for Espresso, aged 26, donned a retro Bob Mackie gown that Cher had previously worn 50 years prior.
The outfit showcases a snug, sleek black bodysuit, adorned with shimmering pink and blue fringes embellished with reflective rhinestones for an extra touch of glamour.
The legendary individual, who was 79 years old at the time, had a unique dress made specifically for them. This very dress was prominently featured during their duet performance of the popular song ‘Shame, Shame, Shame’ alongside Tina Turner on The Cher Show in April 1975.
The Mackie archive dress matched flawlessly with Sabrina’s VMAs post-party style, themed around the disco era of Studio54.
The two-time Grammy Award winner exuded self-assurance while wearing Cher’s iconic dress, accompanied by her security team, as they entered the social event.

She accessorized it with towering silver chrome heels, increasing the height on her small 5-foot stature.
The woman from Pennsylvania accentuated the ’70s vibe even more by crafting her iconic blonde locks into bountiful, disco-era ringlets.
As for her makeup, Sabrina rocked bold lower lashes and a vibrant pink lip.
Cher wasn’t the only music icon that Sabrina paid tribute to during the 2025 MTV VMAs.
In a nod to Britney Spears, Sabrina performed her new song “Tears” live on TV for the first time, dressed in a glittering bra, dancing amidst simulated rain at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
Sabrina’s appearance and act reminded one of performances from Britney Spears’ Dream Within a Dream Tour, which took place in 2001.
In an unforgettable moment, I channeled my inner icon by gracefully twirling in the rain, adorned with a lavish Bob Mackie bra studded with diamonds – that recently fetched a staggering $78,000 at auction – during that legendary concert. This extraordinary event was later transformed into an HBO television special, immortalizing the magic of the moment.
Sabrina also gave nod to Spears at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
In a memorable moment, she mimicked Britney Spears’ distinctive voiceover from the chart-topping single “Oops!… I Did It Again,” released in 2000, and soon after began performing a medley of tracks from her sixth studio album titled “Short n’ Sweet.

Spears reacted to the tribute via Instagram, tellings fans that Sabrina made her ‘cool’ again.
The pop icon admitted, “At times, I forget about my celebrity status due to being a mother and feeling quite mature. Yet, it was quite fascinating to me. She managed to make me seem trendy.
During the VMAs that year, Sabrina paid homage to Madonna by donning a stunning Bob Mackie dress that the iconic star had worn to the Oscars in 1991 when she was 67 years old.
As I stood before the camera for my highly-anticipated first Vogue cover in February, I couldn’t help but channel some timeless inspiration from a true icon – Madonna. Embracing my inner diva, I donned a stunning platinum-blonde wavy wig and a captivating baby blue Dolce & Gabbana teddy that evoked memories of her iconic Jean Paul Gaultier corset from the 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour.
Many people were amazed by the strong resemblance between Sabrina and Madonna, prompting a comment from the iconic pop star herself.
On Sabrina’s Instagram, at that moment, Madonna left a comment using eye emojis, implying “Could this be a Valentine’s gift for me?
At that, Sabrina – who boasts 99.8M social media followers – responded: ‘@madonna It sure is!’
At this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, Sabrina took home three Moon Person trophies.

She first won in the Best Album category for Short N Sweet, which was released last August.
She started her acknowledgement speech by expressing gratitude towards her fans as she stated: “Hello everyone, oh my goodness! Look at all these people here! Thank you so much. Thank you, VMAs, for bestowing this award upon me. This is actually my second moon man, and that’s just mind-blowing.
I truly appreciate it when you all make time in your lives to listen to an album, and if by chance it’s one of mine, I am incredibly grateful, whether it’s ‘Short N Sweet’ or ‘Man’s Best Friend’, my latest albums, or any of my previous 29. I feel like the most fortunate girl in the world.
She later went on to win Best Pop Artist and Best Visual Effects for her Manchild music video.
