‘Too Sweet’ is The Perez Bros’ Ode to Creative Community

The Perez Bros, Alejandro and Vicente Perez who are often recognized jointly, are celebrating their friends and fellow artists who inspire their work in a fresh exhibition at Thinkspace Projects, Los Angeles. This show, curated by the pair, brings together paintings, sculptures, photographs, and mixed-media pieces from 50 different artists as a moving salute to their artistic circle.

Titled “Too Sweet“, the series draws its name from a gesture that gained popularity in the 1990s among the wrestling faction New World Order. Originally used backstage as a sign of camaraderie and brotherhood, it eventually took on broader meanings symbolizing unity. This gesture provides an apt metaphor for the show’s central themes, which revolve around connection, memory, and the human condition.

Some notable pieces include Deanna Barahona’s mixed-media work titled “Dinner on the Yellow Stain,” Matt McCormick’s cinematic oil on linen piece named “Moonlit Confidence (Take Another Pass At It),” and Manuel Zamudio’s apocalyptic depiction in “Mañana.” James Supa Medrano combines elements from No Fear’s iconic angry eyes and Alexandre Cabanel’s “The Fallen Angel” in a graphic-realist composition. Thalia Gochez captures a tender portrait of Californian youth with her lens. Staying true to their love for cars, the brothers have curated works that reflect car culture, with contributions from Estevan Oriol, Julian Pace, Sean Hamilton, Tanner Goldbeck, and Vanessa Torrez.
