In Georgia, despite sports betting currently being illegal, the PGA Tour’s gaming division is advocating for the legislation that would make it legal.
Initially, sports were the main focus. Later, wagering on sports became a common practice, leading us to one of the most widely enjoyed leisure activities globally: sports wagering. Yet, numerous regions around the world have yet to approve sports betting. One such region is Georgia, USA. Despite this, the official PGA Tour is actively advocating for Georgia’s lawmakers to legalize this popular pastime.
PGA Tour gaming division strives to get sports betting legalized in Georgia
In many states, sports betting is already permitted, but some lag behind. However, the gaming division of the PGA Tour aims to assist those states in making the choice to legalize this activity.
Scott Warfield, the leader of the PGA Tour’s gaming division, held talks with legislators in Georgia, aiming to shed a more favorable perspective on sports wagering.

Warfield stated, “Here’s an approach that keeps our dedicated sports enthusiasts deeply involved for a longer duration. These fans closely follow our competitions and are more active in consuming our content.
In simpler terms, Atlanta boasts several high-profile sports teams within the city, and introducing sports betting could potentially generate significant income for these teams. Furthermore, it might attract a larger and more engaged audience.
Georgia’s state income tax may be out the door, making room for sports betting
In simpler terms, the main argument for legalizing sports betting in Georgia is due to the ongoing efforts to eliminate the state’s income tax. As a result, finding alternative sources of income becomes crucial, and sports betting emerges as a significant contender for this new revenue stream.

Despite ongoing resistance to the proposed change in Georgia’s state tax, there remains a strong possibility it will be approved, leading to a substantial reduction in funds going to the state. Simultaneously, Georgia’s House Study on Gaming is considering legalizing casinos and sports betting, which could potentially bring a large financial boost to the state.
