Cillian Murphy has opened up about missing out on Christopher Nolan’s new movie The Odyssey.
Drawing inspiration from Homer’s timeless ancient Greek tale, titled The Odyssey, presents Matt Damon as the protagonist, King Odysseus of Ithaca.
In July 2026, a new movie is scheduled to premiere that traces the journey of the King of Ithaca as he returns home after a ten-year stint in the Trojan War.

In collaboration, the star of Peaky Blinders, Murphy, and the renowned filmmaker have jointly contributed to a grand total of six films, among which is Nolan’s most recent production titled Oppenheimer.
During an interview with Variety, Murphy humorously expressed his sense of relief about not being part of Christopher Nolan’s newest film by stating: “Has a trailer been released? I’m experiencing ‘Joy from skipping it’, aka ROMO.
Expanding on his statement, he mentioned that he was eagerly anticipating the production. In his opinion, if there was a filmmaker capable of handling The Odyssey, it would undeniably be Christopher Nolan.
I’m absolutely thrilled to catch a glimpse of it! He’s truly unique, like one-of-a-kind. As an actor, he’s played a significant role in my journey. I’m really looking forward to seeing his next move with this project.
Alongside Damon, an impressive lineup for The Odyssey also includes stars like Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and Robert Pattinson.
The upcoming film is set to be the very first commercial production filmed entirely using IMAX film cameras, a fact confirmed by Richard Gelfond, head of IMAX, earlier this year.
Approximately a year prior to Chris embarking on the production of The Odyssey, he reached out to express his desire to create an entire movie using IMAX cameras, as Gelfond recounted. However, due to numerous complications and challenges, it was not feasible at that time.
He reminded me of Nolan saying, “I’m proposing a task. If you manage to find solutions for these issues, I’ll create ‘Odyssey’ entirely using IMAX cameras,” and we’ve tackled those challenges.
The Odyssey is set for release in July 2026.
