The Conjuring: Last Rites Reveals Why Judy Hanged Herself

In the film titled The Conjuring: Last Rites, the closing moments were filled with nerve-wracking instances, among which Judy’s (Mia Tomlinson) self-inflicted hanging stood out significantly. As this movie marks the conclusion of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s on-screen appearances, these scenes had to carry a deeply personal weight for them.

Here’s what happened in The Conjuring: Last Rites that led to Judy hanging herself.

Why did Judy hang herself in The Conjuring: Last Rites?

Toward the end of the movie, Judy makes an attempt at suicide, driven by a potent spirit linked to a cursed mirror that had taken control of her.

Initially setting its narrative around Judy Warren, daughter of Ed and Lorraine, in “The Conjuring: Last Rites”, we find that an early case in their paranormal investigation careers left a lasting impact. This instance involved a cursed mirror, which, during Lorraine’s interaction while she was pregnant with Judy, caused her harm upon touching it. This incident ultimately led to the premature birth of their daughter.

Despite being born lifeless and declared deceased for a moment, it appeared as though Lorraine’s prayer somehow stirred life within the newly-born infant.

In time, the mirror devised a strategy to entice Judy into the Smurl house, which was already riddled with supernatural activities. Upon arriving at the residence, the hauntings intensified significantly. Given that Judy too shares psychic abilities like her mother, the demon targeted her directly, eventually leading to its possession of Judy.

As time wore on, a completely controlled Judy attempted to cause harm to the Smurl family as well as her own parents. When Ed drew near to her, the demon caused him to suffer a heart attack, which in turn led Judy to the attic. Up in the attic, Judy found herself suspended in mid-air by a rope that was gradually tightening around her neck.

Ed, Tony (who is Lorraine’s fiancé and Judy’s companion), arrived just in the nick of time. They swiftly intervened, administering CPR to revive her. Eventually, with the support of her parents and her own resilience, Judy managed to shatter the mirror and vanquish the demon.
