Drew Barrymore details daughter’s terrifying e-bike crash in France that ‘ripped her whole elbow open’

Drew Barrymore shared details of a distressing incident involving her family, as one of her children suffered severe injuries during an electric bicycle mishap while holidaying in France.

On her Thursday visit to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actress detailed an experience she went through while raising her two daughters, Olive (age 12) and Frankie (age 11), with her former husband Will Kopelman.

The last planned meeting, unfortunately, didn’t happen due to my daughter having an unfortunate accident. I was supposed to meet with Colbert’s wife, but I had to cancel our plans instead,” Barrymore explained to the host, referencing a past occasion.

Despite telling Colbert that her daughter was all right, the former ET star later elaborated on the extreme nature of the event.

Originally, her statement was: “My daughter, you know, she experienced an electric bike mishap. In France, a place that sounds simply wonderful,” she said, hinting at humor. A more simplified version could be: ‘We were in the wonderfully charming France when my daughter had an accident with an e-bike.’

Barrymore shared that while her child was cycling deeply in the mountains, they suffered a severe cut on their elbow, necessitating several trips to the hospital.

‘We spent days in an E.R., in and out,’ the talk show host revealed.

At a truly astonishing instance, Barrymore shared an account of her daughter stepping up and handling situations independently.

She took off her bra and used it as a makeshift bandage, swiftly thinking on her feet, she revealed with admiration for her quick actions.

Colbert marveled at her resourcefulness, implying it likely stemmed from her childhood, however, Barrymore rejected that notion.

‘No! That’s just who she is. And I just marvel at her,’ the Charlie’s Angels star said proudly.

The actress has long spoken about the importance of motherhood in her life.

In a previous appearance on Colbert’s show in January, she described her girls as her ‘North Star.’

She once remarked that they’re exceptionally great, each day and each hour brings something new. To her, they serve as a guiding light (North Star) and a navigational tool (compass).

Barrymore also reflected on how motherhood has transformed her.

She expressed that before meeting them, her life priorities were distinct. Yet, encountering them revealed to her the meaning of her life. She exclaimed with enthusiasm, ‘It’s incredible!’

She went on to say, ‘I am completely committed, deeply care, and although I’m far from perfect, I promise to give my all to excel, and it’s enjoyable, amusing, satisfying, and wonderful. They mean the world to me.’

2024 saw Drew Barrymore discussing her oldest child’s strong desire to grow up faster during an episode of her talk show.

‘My daughter, who’s about to turn 12 really wants to be 16… going on 25,’ she said.
