Andy Lee reveals first look at what his mammoth Melbourne mansion renovation will look like

Andy Lee offers fans an initial peek at the anticipated design of his expansive Melbourne home renovation project.

Over the past two years, a comedian, aged 44, and his companion, 35, have been working tirelessly to transform a dilapidated 150-year-old house near Melbourne’s Yarra River into a beautiful home.

During the prolonged renovation, Andy shared on Instagram last Friday his intentions and Rebecca’s for their ambitious construction project.

In the video, Andy opens by addressing the curiosity many have expressed about our home situation. He admits that it’s a valid question, as he too has pondered on it.

‘In a nutshell, the primary issue lies with the house’s design, as it faces the back due to its historical access via the Yarra river.’

Subsequently, it was disclosed that the resolution for the issue involved constructing another home behind the initial one, with both properties linked by an underground passageway.

‘We need to preserve that and that’s where you’d normally build off for an extension,’ he said. 

As an enthusiast, I’ve been captivated by the ingenious notion that the architects proposed: moving the construction site slightly backward to make way for a stunning new edifice – the River House. A delightful piazza would serve as the heart, connecting this marvel with the majestic Heritage House, offering us a breathtaking view of the past and present in one captivating scene.

‘They’ve also created a tunnel between the two so it’s connected.’

While talking, Andy showed architectural sketches of the completed project, providing further insights about the upcoming river house.

Andy explained that they have chosen to cover the modern construction with aged copper, similar to the Statue of Liberty, which gives off a greenish-blue hue. This choice aims to create a warmer appearance and make the structure blend seamlessly with the sky.

He mentioned that his partner had given their approval for the plans, stating that “Beck was thoroughly delighted when she saw this.

The article sparked numerous reactions from fans, prompting one to query the reason for the additional property.

‘So what are the plans with the existing house? Will it be an occupied house?’ they asked.

Andy suggested that there would be an office located upstairs, and a guest room on the ground floor. This layout allows guests to visit while still having their own separate space.

Some, however, took the opportunity to take a subtle dig at Andy, claiming he was ‘out of touch.’ 

A house with a copper roof and an underground tunnel gives off a vibe that suggests a high degree of separation from ordinary people, as if it belongs to a supervillain.

Another chimed in with a similar: ‘Video explaining your house, not very common man.’

It wasn’t all criticism, though, with many gushing over the stunning images.

One admirer commented, “You’ll look fantastic!” They acknowledged your hard work and effort, saying, “You’ve truly deserved every bit of success. Great job, Andy and Bec.

The person agreed, saying: ‘Amazing architectural and interior design! It’s wonderful to see this becoming a reality for you two. Such a fantastic home you’re building.’

In 2023, Andy and Rebecca started a significant renovation project on their beautiful Italian-style mansion, which is expected to cost around $5 million.

The comedian has been diligently renovating the run-down mansion in Melbourne known as Ravenswood, which he purchased for $8.5 million in 2021, in a style reminiscent of home improvement TV shows.

The couple won council approval for their development application back in June 2023.

Additional features to be incorporated within the 1,950 square meter space are a private cinema, a fitness center, an indoor pool, and an expansive master suite.

In June, Daily Mail reported that the ambitious plan to link a contemporary building to an Italian-style mansion was causing a stir among neighbors, as the construction work was expected to continue for several more years.

The environment is quite loud, and it has remained that way for over a year now. It’s become rather irritating since we’re looking at another couple of years of dealing with this continuous noise,” expressed the individual, expressing their frustration.

Although they later acknowledged that the earthworks were initially the loudest part of the construction, the neighbor now notes that it has significantly quieted down.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that sentence as follows: “When working on a construction project, you’ll inevitably encounter noise levels and challenging parking situations. Renovating a home often brings these complications.

Another nearby resident concurred, stating: ‘Daily digging occurred from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. However, that activity has now stopped.’

‘At the moment it has quietened down. We’ve just accepted that it’s happening.’
