The Marvel Universe continues to grow as fresh installments hit theaters and are made accessible through a Disney+ membership. Fans who’ve followed the Marvel films in sequence for years have witnessed the ups and downs of the post-“Endgame” universe. A standout moment was “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” but there’s been no announcement about its sequel yet. After James Gunn confirmed that “Superman’s” sequel, titled “Man of Tomorrow,” was in production, Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu seemed to hint at some discontent with Marvel.
Enthusiasts have long anticipated Liu’s return in upcoming Marvel films, with the much-awaited moment arriving next year as he joins the cast of “Avengers: Doomsday.” However, there has been no official announcement about a second installment of “Shang-Chi,” despite Liu’s enduring enthusiasm for the project. A fan on Twitter recently expressed excitement for the upcoming “Superman” sequel, posting about it online.
I genuinely don’t remember the last time a superhero movie had a sequel turnaround this fast
Man of Tomorrow” is already complete and it has a set release date. This news led Simu Liu to express his own emoji reaction, which you can see below.
😐
It’s quite understandable that Liu might feel frustrated, given he’s donning the Shang-Chi suit again in “Doomsday”, yet sees how quickly some superhero sequels are produced. One may wonder why his own franchise isn’t receiving similar speedy treatment. Considering Simu Liu has been maintaining a superhero physique for quite some time, it’s reasonable to expect his series would follow suit, so to speak.
It appears that there’s not much confirmed information about Shang-Chi 2 yet, as Kevin Feige and Marvel have been focusing on different projects. However, it is expected that director Destin Daniel Cretton will return for the sequel, but first, he’ll be working on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is currently in production.

Disney+ offers a variety of content, including the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Shang-Chi. The monthly cost starts at just $9.99 with their new ad-supported plan. If you prefer an ad-free experience, it’s $15.99 per month, or you can save 16% by pre-paying $159.99 for a year. Check out the deal!
Again using an emoticon, Liu expressed his growing impatience over the slow progress of Shang-Chi 2. Although the studio has plans to feature him in projects such as Doomsday, it seems that his sequel isn’t high on their current list of priorities. Here’s hoping things move more swiftly for this project in the near future.
This stagnation is equally disheartening for fans, particularly those eagerly awaiting clarification following the credits scene of Shang-Chi. Within it, Wong was present and orchestrated a gathering with Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner, after the Ten Rings served as a beacon for an undisclosed entity. Whether this makes him an Avenger remains to be seen.
Next year on December 18th, Liu will reprise his iconic role in the film “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is set for release as part of the 2026 movie lineup. Watching Shang-Chi on the big screen again might spark some genuine development in the production of his sequel by the studio.
