James Gunn recently clarified some questions about the title of his upcoming DC project. In a recent conversation, he explained whether the movie, titled “Man of Tomorrow,” includes the name Superman in its title. He also revealed details about how this film fits into the broader Superman narrative.
James Gunn confirms Superman is not in Man of Tomorrow title
Man of Tomorrow” or just “Man of Tomorrow,” James Gunn made it clear that it’s simply called “Man of Tomorrow.” His earlier statement had confirmed that the film would advance the Superman storyline, but it won’t be a direct sequel to the original Superman.
According to earlier statements made by the filmmaker to The Hollywood Reporter, they have finished drafting the plan for the project, which Gunn described as a continuation of what he terms the “Superman Series.” Gunn expressed optimism about commencing filming on the movie shortly.
On Instagram, he announced that the release date is set for July 9, 2027. Along with this, DC’s Jim Lee unveiled an artwork showcasing Superman and Lex Luthor. The illustration portrays Luthor wearing his signature green and purple armor suit, a comic book icon that hasn’t been seen in live-action yet.
Internet users debated if the absence of “Superman” in the title could impact its status as a sequel. One user pointed out that it’s still a sequel because it continues the story following Superman’s events, even though it’s not titled “Superman 2.” Some fans also discussed the possibility of a trilogy using Superman’s nicknames like “Last Son of Krypton” as potential titles.
News arises following the triumph of his latest Superman film, earning a global box office revenue of $611.6 million, and presenting fresh DC Universe characters like Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, and Hawkgirl. The upcoming DC Studios lineup includes projects preceding Man of Tomorrow, such as Supergirl, helmed by Craig Gillespie, scheduled for release on June 26, 2026, and James Watkins’ Clayface, set to debut on September 11, 2026.
