At the Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday night, Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks’ son, almost seemed like a different person.
As a dedicated follower, I found myself standing alongside the 47-year-old actor at the world premiere of the documentary John Candy: I Like Me. The man who is typically known for his clean-cut appearance had transformed before my eyes – he was noticeably thinner and sported an impressive salt-and-pepper beard, a drastic departure from his usual look.
Ryan Reynolds, 48, who produced the film, was also in attendance with his mother Tammy Reynolds.
Colin strutted on the red carpet, sporting a sleek navy-blue suit and a gray button-up shirt, which accentuated an appearance of a slimmer silhouette for him.
He completed his look with stylish browline glasses and lustrous black leather shoes.
Tom’s ex-wife Samantha Lewes’ nephew, who is also a filmmaker, put on a pair of vintage, dark-framed glasses.

Ryan made a stylish appearance in a brown corduroy suit and vintage-looking Canada T-shirt.
As he stood alongside her, his mother displayed a radiant smile, adorning a white top with black polka dots and a matching skirt, for the photograph.
She accessorized with a long, black cardigan, glittering silver platform shoes, and her distinctive short, white-gray spiky hairstyle.
Eugene Levy, 78, was another famous face at the star-studded event.
The actor from Schitt’s Creek, often working alongside John Candy, sported an elegant look with his distinctive round and glossy black eyeglasses as a trademark.
‘There’s no other place that we’d rather be than right here.
In simpler terms, Colin shared with the TIFF crowd that after many discussions with different individuals about where would be ideal for debuting this movie, he found the answer in the lyrics of John’s preferred song – specifically, the line “Oh, Canada, Our Home and Native Land.” (This paraphrase attempts to maintain the original meaning while making it more accessible to a broader audience.)
Ryan stated about the late comedian, ‘John, he passed away in 1994. He may have been the greatest, most handsome individual I never had the chance to encounter, and I truly wish with all my heart that I could have met this remarkable man.'”
This paraphrase maintains the original meaning while using simpler, more conversational language and adding a bit of emphasis to express the speaker’s admiration.

For quite some time now, I’ve been deeply fascinated with him, a fact that’s not hidden from many. Tonight, unfortunately, my coat seems to have gathered an excess of ‘John’ stains.
The production of John Candy: I Like Me was announced in 2022 by Ryan in 2022.
And the movie’s Amazon Prime Video acquisition was announced in February 2023.
The documentary received complete backing from Candy’s spouse, Rosemary Margaret Hobor, as well as their children Jennifer (age 45) and Chris (age 40).
As your trusted lifestyle guide, let me share an exciting piece of news. We’re about to delve deeper into the personal realm of Candy, offering a rare glimpse of her life away from the cameras through unseen home videos, private archives, and heartfelt family interviews. Stay tuned!
Colin’s father Tom and stepmother Rita Wilson starred with John in the 1985 film Volunteers.
John also appeared in 1984’s Splash alongside Tom and Daryl Hannah.
