Sydney Sweeney opted not to address the American Eagle controversy during her upcoming movie festival appearances.
During the summer, she was the lead in an advertisement for the brand’s jeans that went viral, causing a heated response on social media. The ad sparked outrage among critics who saw similarities to ‘Nazi propaganda’ due to its use of the phrase “good genes” and featuring a blonde, blue-eyed actress.
Following the commotion, her lesser-known, humorous crime film titled “Americana” made its cinema debut, receiving disappointing ticket sales. This led the director to comment that the film was swallowed up by the prevailing cultural zeitgeist.
Presently, the 27-year-old Sydney is gearing up for the world premiere of her heartfelt endeavor, “Christy,” a biographical film based on the life of renowned boxer Christy Martin, at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Before the grand occasion begins, she’s already made it clear she won’t entertain queries regarding the American Eagle project.
‘I’m attending this event to promote my movie and those who worked hard on its production. You can expect me to discuss that film, specifically focusing on the story of Christy.’ In other words, jeans are not the topic of conversation for today.

In the advertisement, Actress Sydney Sweeney, affectionately referred to by the title, is featured casually fastening a pair of stylish jeans. The ad incorporates a clever wit, as she playfully jokes about genes using a pun.
In genes, parents convey characteristics to their children, influencing aspects such as hair color, temperament, and sometimes eye color…when it comes to his jeans, Sydney mentions they’re blue.
When the campaign debuted in July, it was swiftly engulfed in a storm of disagreement due to social media users asserting that it promoted racism and hinted at eugenics, given the prominent role of the fair-haired, blue-eyed star.
Many spectators came to the defense of the well-endowed entertainer, labeling the criticism as “extreme” and stating that those opposing the advertisement were perhaps overanalyzing the situation.
According to insiders at American Eagle, approximately 70% of participants in an independent survey reacted positively to the promotion, as reported by TMZ.
As an ardent admirer, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Sydney’s masterpiece, Americana, finally graced the big screen on August 15th. However, despite my high expectations, the movie only managed to rake in a disheartening $500,000 during its opening weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That’s quite a gap from its hefty $9 million budget!
Although the financial aspect of the picture fell flat, Sydney’s fellow actor Halsey encouraged viewers to watch it despite its being overshadowed by the “24-hour celebrity gossip tabloids and their denim nonsense.
As a lifestyle expert, I would say: In light of the recent box office slump, I’ve found myself standing by the creative decisions made in our film, much like its director Tony Tost. Instead of labeling it as a traditional blockbuster, I see it more as a hidden gem – a movie that may not have the initial mainstream appeal, but is certainly worth discovering for those who appreciate unique storytelling and cinematic artistry.

In his post on X (previously known as Twitter), he mentioned that a wonderful aspect of films is their ability to survive beyond the cultural moment they initially appeared in.
In my case, having my initial movie swallowed by the cultural moment, I’m eager to find out how it will hold up once this phase passes. I can only hope that it will fare quite decently.
While there’s chatter that Sydney may be involved in a romantic liaison with music mogul Scooter Braun, known for his past management of artists such as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, it’s also important to note that he was recently at odds with Taylor Swift over her music ownership.
It was in June that speculation about them dating began, as they were spotted together at the extravagant, celebrity-filled wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez in Venice, which reportedly cost $20 million.
Currently, a reliable source close to Sydney has shared with the Daily Mail that she and Scooter, aged 44, are not in an exclusive relationship, and there are no immediate plans for them to move in that direction.
The source disclosed that since she views herself as unattached, this revelation won’t earn Scooter any favor from her, as he is not her boyfriend.
While it appears that Scooter continues to use the celeb-oriented dating app Raya, a report suggests that he desires a serious, committed relationship with Sydney. Interestingly, Sydney seems to be keeping things casual, yet she does appreciate spending time with him.
