Netflix has announced its lineup for “The Age of Innincence,” a forthcoming period drama inspired by the timeless novel with the same title.
In simple terms, an upcoming television series will be based on Edith Wharton’s novel from 1920. The narrative is characterized as a tantalizing depiction of illicit love and passion set within high-society New York during the Gilded Age. (Paraphrased from Tudum)
In an initial announcement, it was confirmed that Camila Morrone, known for her role in Daisy Jones & The Six, will take on the character Ellen Olenska. Meanwhile, Kristine Froseth from The Buccaneers will portray May Welland, and Ben Radcliffe, who has acted in Masters of the Air, will play Newland Archer.

Justified‘s Margo Martindale is also joining the cast as Mrs Manson-Mingott.
In ‘The Age of Innocence,’ we delve into a compelling love story involving a complex web of emotions, focusing on themes such as liberty, obligation, self-discovery, and love in its various aspects.

The modern adaptation intends to stay faithful to Wharton’s novel while resonating with a newer audience, exploring the themes of love and lust through the lives of its youthful characters in their ballrooms and bedrooms. Is it our reason or emotions that should guide us ultimately? This question is at the heart of the story.
In this production, Emma Frost is the creative mind behind both its conception and scriptwriting. Shannon Murphy takes charge as director for the initial three episodes, while Lisa Brühlmann and Natalia Leite assume directing duties for the rest of the series.
Wharton’s novel has undergone multiple adaptations, but it was the 1993 version by esteemed director Martin Scorsese that gained the most recognition. Daniel Day-Lewis portrayed Newland, while Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder played secondary characters in this adaptation.

The book has received high praise from both critics and readers, with one calling it “completely captivating and heartfelt.” As they expressed on Goodreads: “It’s been masterfully written – so intelligent and engaging that I found myself struggling to set it aside.
After reading “The Age of Innocence” three times now, I’d say it deserves a perfect score – if such a thing existed. Over the past year, this novel has gradually ascended to join the ranks of my all-time favorite reads. (This is a paraphrased version of the original text.)
The Age of Innocence has no release date.
