In the realm of amusement parks, change is the only constant, with no attraction immune to drastic alterations or complete overhauls. When a ride at Disney or Universal is slated for replacement, there are usually those who mourn its departure… but not Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit – it was universally disliked.
It’s not surprising to hear that a popular attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood, which has been around for almost three decades, could potentially be closed down. Many fantastic rides and shows don’t have such a long lifespan. If it does indeed close, I must admit I will feel quite sad, as it stands out as one of the park’s best offerings. It’s remarkable that it remains popular despite the movie it’s based on being rather poor.

The Waterworld Stunt Show Is The Best Version Of Waterworld Out There
If you’ve never visited Universal Studios Hollywood before, you might find it astonishing to discover that their theme park features a live stunt show inspired by the movie Waterworld. Despite being widely recognized as one of Hollywood’s biggest flops, largely due to Kevin Costner not heeding advice from Steven Spielberg, it’s quite remarkable that a stunt show based on this film is still running after three decades.
While it’s true that themed entertainment often focuses on rides, what sets this show apart is its exceptional live performance. In the realm of entertainment, live acts truly shine as the pinnacle. Compared to any ride, the world conjured by human performers outshines them all. The stunts are jaw-dropping, and the audience engagement ensures an immersive experience that makes you feel like a protagonist in the story. The grandeur of the largest sets is astonishing, as if they were filmed on a movie set rather than within a theme park.
As a movie enthusiast, let me tell you that Waterworld at Universal Studios Hollywood is not to be missed! It’s one of those unforgettable experiences that sets this theme park apart from the rest. For me, it rivals the legendary Universal Studios Backlot Tour in terms of sheer excitement and uniqueness. So, hearing whispers that this amazing show might (eventually) close down has left me feeling quite disheartened.
Waterworld Stunt Show May Get Replaced
A fresh, innovative idea for Universal Studios has been unveiled, incorporating both the theme park area and the studio itself on X. Notably, this revamp includes a replacement for the existing Waterworld Stunt Show site with an all-encompassing experience that combines a new attraction, food services, and merchandise offerings.
The map features additional information such as modifications to the Studio Tour path and newly constructed accommodations, which hint at possible resort hotels being built by Universal Studios Hollywood. Although no formal announcement has been made, there’s a widespread belief that these rumors hold truth.
If the Waterworld show was changed into a brand-new stunt show, I wouldn’t feel too upset about it. Universal has the ability to turn any intellectual property (IP) into a successful show. For a while, they even had a pre-show based on The Fall Guy. Given that movie’s popularity, it’s possible we could have seen more of it. However, this map suggests something entirely new is being planned, and I’d be disappointed to see the old attraction replaced with this new type of attraction.
As a film enthusiast, I’d like to clarify that this plan we’re discussing is more of an idea or vision at this stage. It’s important to note that nothing on this list is set in stone, and it might be quite some time before any changes materialize. While the Waterworld Stunt Show isn’t likely to shut down imminently, I can’t help but feel a sense of approaching change, although officially, there’s no cause for immediate concern.
