Qiddiya acquires full ownership of Evo organizer RTS

Starting from 2024, Qiddiya, a global collaborator with the Evolution Championship Series (Evo), has taken complete control over RTS, as announced by Muhannad Aldawood, who serves as the chief strategy officer at Qiddiya.

On September 2nd, Aldawood posted on LinkedIn that Qiddiya had completed the acquisition of RTS. He characterized this action as a strategic move designed to bolster Qiddiya’s esports sector and broaden its presence within the wider gaming environment.

Aldawood announced with enthusiasm that Qiddiya now fully owns RTS, a move aimed at enhancing our esports sector and opening up fresh possibilities within the wider gaming industry.

Aldawood noted that the acquisition would foster further expansion of Evo, ultimately allowing it to scale new peaks within the realm of the Fighting Game Community.

In the subsequent part, numerous individuals were acknowledged, such as Stuart Saw, CEO of RTS, Richard Thiher, general manager of Evo, Steven Roberts, global vice president of new ventures and business development at Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), and co-founder Akshat Rathee of NODWIN Gaming.

12 days following Qiddiya’s announcement about their investment in RTS, a LinkedIn post arrived. Meanwhile, on August 21st, Qiddiya extended its global partnership with Evo until 2027, as announced by them.

Beneath Aldawood’s LinkedIn post, numerous individuals expressed their congratulations. For instance, Rathee specifically mentioned enjoying being part of Evo and supporting the whole team as depicted in Aldawood’s picture.

“Excited and hopeful of building for the future together!” Rathee wrote.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that when big announcements drop, the gaming community on platform X gets pretty hyped. For instance, renowned commentator Stephen “Sajam” Lyon, known for his insights, recently shared on X that this particular announcement was something he had been expecting. In his own words, it was only a matter of time!

In a later post, Sajam expressed that the news inspires him to brainstorm new ideas for beneficial projects within our community. He seems to convey a sense of concern that the segments catering to fighting game enthusiasts are gradually becoming scarce.

Responses to the post encompassed offers of assistance, questions regarding expenses, and comments on the current status of Fighting Game Community (FGC). Several users brought up Saudi Arabia’s investments and the topic of sports washing.

Dominique “SonicFox” McLean, who’s won Evo eight times, also voiced their thoughts on X. They expressed that they intend to keep striving towards personal objectives at Evo and emphasized that they will not fade into obscurity. Furthermore, SonicFox mentioned that they will continue to be a prominent figure advocating for LGBTQA+ rights.

SonicFox urged other allies to enthusiastically display their flags at these events as much as possible. As the LGBTQ+ community plays a significant role within the Fighting Game Community (FGC), we’re here to stay. This encourages me even more to utilize my platform to amplify our voices louder.
