The Roses spoilers follow.
The British charity, one of the nation’s top, has voiced criticism towards Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman’s latest movie titled “The Roses“.
In the movie, which is both hilarious and dark in tone, the main characters, portrayed by this pair, experience a deteriorating relationship. The downfall begins when one partner gains professional success, leaving the other feeling left behind and ultimately suffering embarrassment in front of the public eye.

Near the end, they get into a huge fight over who gets possession of their house.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my excitement about the intriguing twist in the story! In this captivating scene, Benedict Cumberbatch’s character, Theo, masterminds an ingenious plot where he cleverly manages to deceive his wife Ivy, portrayed magnificently by Olivia Colman. The climax of the tale unfolds with Theo convincing Ivy, my dear lady, to partake in a delicious meal that unbeknownst to her contains raspberries!
In a scene reminiscent of an earlier event, she experiences an adverse reaction due to an allergy. At this point, he attempts to make her legally separate by urging her to sign divorce documents, granting him ownership of the home, prior to administering the EpiPen.

Ivy goes ahead and finalizes the documents. Theo, with tears in his eyes, confides in her that he would’ve saved her life without fail, even if it meant using the EpiPen. Later on, he notices she’s signed as “Zendaya” on those papers. (Paraphrased and rephrased)
Later on, she attempts to murder her spouse using a firearm, leading to a destructive struggle between them as they both aim to harm one another. In the end, they confess their mutual love for each other, only to contemplate their shared demise from a fire that they unintentionally sparked.
After the movie’s premiere, the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, a charitable organization focusing on food allergies, penned a public missive directed towards the film creators.
In the corresponding blog post to the letter, the charity emphasized that the action was not only insensitive but also potentially harmful.

It’s absolutely unacceptable to withhold crucial medical aid during an emergency situation, and it’s certainly not a source of humor. The movie unfortunately shows the incorrect administration of life-saving devices like EpiPens or Jext repeatedly, which not only goes against reality but also potentially disseminates harmful misinformation.
The letter further stated: “For individuals and their families dealing with serious food allergies, such depictions are not only distressing but also damaging. Food allergies are a genuine health issue that can rapidly turn critical. Representing them as comedic plot devices is thoughtless, disrespectful, and perpetuates harmful stereotypes about allergy reactions and anaphylaxis.
The letter requests a meeting with the filmmakers to address and rectify the incorrect information portrayed, and to collaborate on spreading knowledge about the proper actions to take during similar situations.
As a devoted fan, I haven’t heard from the creative minds behind the movie (starring none other than Andy Samberg from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the hilarious Kate McKinnon from Saturday Night Live, and the charismatic Ncuti Gatwa from Doctor Who) regarding any public comments at this moment.
The Roses is out in cinemas now.
