Thousands gather in Myanmar for 2-day celebration of Yangon Galacticos’ World Cup victory

A multitude of people flooded the streets of Taunggyi in celebration, honoring the Yangon Galacticos’ triumph at the PUBG Mobile World Cup. Over two days, they enjoyed a parade, paid tributes, and received both plots of land and cash prizes as part of the festivities.

The triumph of Yangon Galacticos at the PUBG Mobile World Cup (PMWC) didn’t just result in victory; it led to an extraordinary welcome home as national heroes in their homeland of Myanmar. This celebration spanned over two days, and an added bonus was the gift of land plots!

The Yangon Galacticos team from Myanmar were victorious and claimed the title of champions at the PMWC tournament held during the Esports World Cup in Riyadh. The complete roster received a grand prize of $547,000 for their first-place finish, marking the largest esports victory and monetary reward ever achieved by South-East Asia. Undoubtedly, this is a reason to celebrate!

Yangon Galacticos

In honor of Yangon Galacticos’ significant impact on the growth of eSports in Myanmar, a two-day festival was organized to celebrate their accomplishments and inspire future developments. This event took place in the capital city of Shan State, Taunggyi, where thousands of locals warmly welcomed their digital idols.

In a lively procession, the Yangon Galacticos and their triumphant trophy were escorted by a marching band, making their way proudly through the city streets.

One of the organizers, KBZ Bank, posted stunning photos of the Yangon Galacticos team, enjoying the warmth and appreciation from the public.

On August 30th, an esteemed tribute event for world champions was hosted at the Jasmine Taunggyi Hotel, the city’s most prestigious accommodation. The following evening, on August 31st, a celebratory dinner was arranged for the PMWC World Champions.

Land gifts honor Myanmar champions

Based on KBZPay’s announcement, the team received a collective gift of nine parcels of land from Taunggyi Garden City, as a token of appreciation for their significant victory. The nine parcels, measuring 40 feet by 60 feet each, are situated in a premium part of the capital within Garden City. According to recent property listings for residential land in this region, the approximate market value of each parcel is approximately $51,000. Therefore, the total real-estate award given to the Myanmar team ranges from $430,000 to $450,000.

As a proud admirer, I’d say in Myanmar, bestowing land as a gift is more than just an act – it’s a deeply rooted cultural gesture that signifies honor and respect. When the Yangon Galacticos are graced with plots of land, it’s not simply a long-term reward; it’s a symbolic tie to their enduring legacy and a promise of future prosperity, underscoring the significance of their achievements beyond temporary victories.

Along with receiving parcels of land, each individual on the roster also earned a cash prize equivalent to 10 million MMK, which amounts to around $47,500.

Previously, their performance hadn’t stood out much, but as fate would have it, they managed to reach the Grand Finals, where their success was nothing short of astounding.

Initially, the Myanmar team struggled in their first match, managing just one victory and placing 12th. However, they turned things around in the second game by claiming 12 victories and a win. Subsequently, the Yangon Galacticos won three more games in the finals, propelling them to the top of the standings with a total of 157 points. Despite their best efforts, Weibo Gaming, who were considered favorites, ended up finishing second, 15 points behind the champions. In contrast, Weibo managed 44 victories, while the champions recorded an impressive 62.

The Myanmar team had a tough start in their first game, winning only once and coming in at 12th place. But they showed great improvement in the second match with 12 wins under their belt. The Yangon Galacticos then went on to win three more games in the finals, earning them a top spot with 157 points. Although Weibo Gaming were hot favorites, they ended up as runners-up, losing by 15 points. Weibo had 44 wins compared to the champions’ impressive 62.

This underdog tale is one for the history books, considering Yangon Galacticos started off as a wildcard team and were established just last December. Remarkably, they were among only four teams at the Esports World Cup to compete in a single title, which numbered 23, yet they managed to take home the championship. Truly an inspiring story.
