HBO Max has officially revealed when we can expect the debut of “IT: Welcome to Derry,” their upcoming series that serves as a prequel spin-off within the popular horror movie franchise produced by Warner Bros. Pictures. The character played by Bill Skarsgård, famously known for his chilling portrayal of Pennywise the Clown, will make another appearance in this supernatural drama.
The show is situated within the realm of Stephen King’s ‘It’ series, drawing inspiration from his novel of the same name. It further develops the cinematic world created by director Andy Muschietti in the movies ‘It’ and ‘It Chapter Two.’
When is the IT: Welcome to Derry release date?
The Derry-set show, starring Bill Skarsgård, is set to premiere exclusively on HBO and HBO Max on October 26th. Alongside Skarsgåard, the series boasts an impressive cast including Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Kimberly Norris Guerrero, Dorian Grey, Thomas Mitchell, Peter Outerbridge, Joshua Odjick, Rudy Mancuso, and others.
This nine-episode series, which serves as a prequel, is primarily crafted by siblings Andy and Barbara Muschietti. Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane play key roles in the show’s management. Following his work on the movie franchise, Andy Muschietti also directed several episodes for this prequel. Moreover, Skarsgård, David Coatsworth, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin are also involved as executive producers.
In 1962, the first season unfolds, delving into the series of incidents that paved the way for Pennywise’s appearance. This narrative is substantially influenced by Mike Hanlon’s research from the book, as Andy Muschietti explained in a past interview. He described it as a tale woven around the interludes of the novel, which recount significant historical events such as the fire at the Black Spot, the Bradley Gang massacre, and the explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks.
