Downton Abbey 3 star admits “slight regret” over final movie – here’s why

Downton Abbey star Phyllis Logan has revealed her “slight regret” over the third and final film.

As I chatted up Prima, the incredible actress slipping back into her iconic role as Mrs. Hughes, we delved into the heartwarming end of this beloved franchise, and she shared some heartfelt thoughts about it all.

She expressed that it seemed appropriate to send the Crawley family off to bed, she added. It was delightful to gather one final time, but there was a hint of sorrow knowing this would be our last gathering. However, it feels right to bring this chapter to an end now. Given that it’s called “The Grand Finale”, it makes sense.

Anticipating the movie’s premiere on September 12, Logan expressed his belief that fans would find the upcoming film particularly satisfying.

The forthcoming film, titled “The Grand Finale,” is penned by Julian Fellowes, its creator, and helmed by director Simon Curtis. It promises to gather a significant number of the original actors such as Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Kevin Doyle, Jim Carter, and Joanne Froggatt.

Currently, details surrounding the plot are limited, however, a brief synopsis has been revealed.

The Grand Finale” portrays the Crawley family and their staff as they step into the 1930s. The familiar faces grapple with leading Downton Abbey towards the future, requiring them to adapt to change and usher in a fresh era.

In the upcoming season, viewers will find Lady Mary Crawley, portrayed by Dockery, dealing with her recent divorce from Henry Talbot, played by Matthew Goode. This time, she’ll be navigating life as a divorcée.

Regarding why he won’t be coming back, Goode has disclosed that conflicting schedules and a significant operation affected his possibilities for a comeback.

For the second part, I was busy with ‘The Offer’. After that, I was occupied with shooting ‘Department Q’. Unfortunately, I injured my knee during this time and needed surgery. Recovery from the operation will take several weeks, which means I wasn’t able to continue working during that period,” he explained to Radio Times.

…”To be honest, he seemed to be losing some assertiveness. Perhaps it’s for the best that things turned out this way.

Downton Abbey 3 will land in UK cinemas on 12 September.
