Every Overwatch game’s result is decided by skill and enthusiasm, rather than through any unjust advantages.
In simpler terms, the creators of Overwatch 2 have shared their latest news about Defense Matrix, a system designed to ensure the game is enjoyable, fair, secure, and welcoming for all players. Notably, since its launch, they’ve disallowed over a million cheaters from playing.

Overwatch 2 bans more than 1 million cheaters
Based on an official statement, it’s been revealed that over 1 million accounts have been suspended due to cheating since the debut of Overwatch 2. This significant number is a result of the January 2025 update which reported approximately 800,000 bans. Cheating encompasses the utilization of wallhacks, aimbots, and various exploits, as well as players collaborating with cheaters.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share an update: Our relentless pursuit to combat cheaters and their unscrupulous tactics continues. Rest assured, we remain steadfast in our mission to guarantee that the results of every Overwatch match are shaped by skill, passion, and sportsmanship – not by any unfair advantages. A big thank you for your continued involvement, as together we keep Overwatch exciting, fair, and extraordinary!
Overwatch 2 improves text chat
In the recent Defense Matrix update for Overwatch 2, there’s a new real-time text moderation system – similar to what worked well in World of Warcraft. This means that any inappropriate or offensive messages typed by players will be hidden from the rest of the lobby. If desired, players can choose to view the full message in their chat feed. They can also report such messages if they deem it necessary.
Overwatch 2 console players enter PC pool with mouse and keyboard
By integrating mouse and keyboard functionality for console gamers, they can now participate alongside PC players when this feature is activated. If they have previously played in the PC player pool, they will utilize their existing Internal Matchmaking Rating (MMR), ranks, and skill ratings from that pool. It’s important to mention that mouse and keyboard users should ensure they enter the appropriate pool for their input to function correctly. Additionally, aim assist is not available in the ranked mouse and keyboard pool.
In the meantime, those using consoles and controllers are included in the group that uses controllers. Players who control using a controller when playing cross-platform matches with their PC friends will still receive aim assistance.
As for PC players using controllers, they remain in the mouse and keyboard pool.
