The upcoming Goodwood Revival in 2025 will highlight five iconic BMW Art Cars as part of the Earls Court Motor Show, marking the 50th anniversary of a unique series that combines racing and art. This exhibition takes place from September 12-14 and is part of the global BMW Art Car World Tour, which pays tribute to the collection’s 20 “artistic vehicles” designed by artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, and David Hockney.
Among the showstoppers for me is David Hockney’s 1995 BMW 850 CSi, whose powerful brushstrokes unveil the vehicle’s innermost essence, joined by Frank Stella’s 1976 BMW 3.0 CSL, Roy Lichtenstein’s 1977 BMW 320i Turbo, Ernst Fuchs’ 1982 BMW 635 CSi, and Jeff Koons’ 2010 BMW M3 GT2, which boast a lively color scheme that screams speed even when stationary. Each car embodies its artist’s distinctive perspective while preserving BMW’s rich racing legacy, encompassing Le Mans-proven powerhouses and enduring production icons.
The BMW Art Car project, initiated in 1975, stands today as a globally recognized cultural symbol, merging technology, design, and art through partnerships with renowned creative figures from around the world. At Goodwood, attendees will have a unique opportunity to witness this artistic conversation up close, observing how artists from various generations transformed the automobile into both an engineering marvel and a canvas for artistic expression.
