Delta Goodrem shared insights on the transformative experience of being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in 2003, when she was only 18 years old – along with a chilling premonition that seemed to foreshadow the event.
The 40-year-old artist, who was once recognized as one of Australia’s rising talents, shared on Davina McCall’s Begin Again podcast that their life took a dramatic turn: “Everything in my life transformed.
Delta shared that just prior to her diagnosis, she had a truly frightening dream which she feels may have been a premonition of the distressing news that was to follow.
Delta shared that she fell asleep and then awoke at 3:31 am. In her dream, she encountered a rather ominous figure in a cemetery who handed her a letter.
Upon waking up from her dream, she was petrified and drenched in sweat, as if she had just emerged from the sea, utterly paralyzed by fear.
The star admitted she began warning her loved ones: ‘Something bad is going to happen to me.’

During that period, Delta was frequently seeking medical help as her doctors kept attributing her recurring symptoms to her hectic schedule, which required her to juggle her acting role in Neighbours with an intense global music promotion campaign.
But when a lump on her neck began to grow, her mother insisted she undergo further tests.
Shortly after undergoing a biopsy at a hospital in Sydney, she was quickly prepped for surgery and informed about her medical condition.
She expressed feeling confined, much like a wild animal cornered with no escape, upon learning about cancer for the first time. Her response was one of trembling.
The disease had already spread beyond her neck, forcing her to undergo chemotherapy and radiation.
Despite the gruelling treatment, Delta attended the ARIA Awards that year with a nurse.
She donned a short wig with blonde hair, gracefully receiving numerous awards and expressing gratitude. She referred to the event as ‘an extraordinary evening of humbly accepting these stunning statues I’ve longed to hold since childhood… Although it didn’t quite match my expectations, the experience holds a profound meaning.’
The Australian singer was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma on July 8, 2003.

In a 2023 interview, Delta opened up about the tough battle she faced as a teenager.
She shared with the Daily Telegraph that, as a young girl, she found herself learning about a battle for her life which doctors required her to join.
During the very same week that Delta received her diagnosis, her first album titled Innocent Eyes reached number one on the ARIA music charts.
‘I am so grateful that 20 years later, we are here making music. It is quite a moment,’ she said.
The Born to Try hitmaker was unable to tour her debut album while undergoing cancer treatment.
She expressed her excitement about being able to take the audience through the album and play songs from “that phase” that fans haven’t had a chance to see performed live before.
For eight long months, that record held the top spot without me getting the chance to perform many of its songs live. Now, experiencing this moment feels like coming full circle.
In my journey as a lifestyle expert, I’ve openly shared my personal battle against cancer and its profound impact on my life.
Back in 2020, when I learned about my diagnosis from WHO magazine, it felt as though an explosive blast had occurred within me.
When I first heard that I had cancer, it sent a jolt through my system. For the following day and a half, I couldn’t help but shake violently. Delta commented on this.
Delta experienced a challenging change in her physical appearance as she lost her hair due to chemotherapy.
She went through a year of cancer treatment.
This included eight months of chemotherapy and two months of radiotherapy.
Delta shared, “I found it extremely challenging to embrace a sense of beauty externally due to the greenish hue on my skin and the visible side-effects from steroids. It was difficult for me to feel good.
After beating cancer, Delta said that her health remains her priority.
