During Season 18 of Overwatch 2, players will experience a reduction in the number of ranking points they lose if someone not from their team exits a ranked Arena game.
As a fellow Overwatch 2 gamer, if you’ve been battling it out in the arena recently, you might’ve spotted some tweaks in the Stadium game mode. Let me fill you in on the latest changes for Season 18 in the Stadium update.
I’ve found that the revamped system focusing on quitters and Stadium Points has added a fresh twist to the gameplay. Here’s what I’ve learned so far about this Stadium refresh!

Overwatch 2 Stadium addresses leavers
Based on information from Blizzard Entertainment, there are two primary issues with the game Stadium. Leaving games prematurely can spoil the overall experience, while closely losing matches can feel frustrating since players receive no rewards despite putting in effort.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got some good news for my fellow gamers out there: From now on, when a teammate bails out mid-match, we’re going to lose fewer Stadium Points. However, it’s important to note that this compensation gets a bit smaller as you climb up the ranks. And let’s not forget, those who choose to abandon ship will still bear the full brunt of the loss penalty.
In simpler terms, during a competitive game at the stadium, if a player’s teammate leaves the game, the affected player will suffer less point deduction, as per the update announced by Blizzard Entertainment on August 26.
Keep in mind that a group is created when you join forces with other players prior to a game. The names of the group members usually appear in green. Teammates can either be individuals within your group or players from outside of it.
Overwatch 2 Stadium Points update
Simultaneously, the rival team continues to earn the same number of stadium points for their win. For tight games, players are awarded stadium points based on every round they successfully win during a ranked contest.
During the same period, the opposing team keeps earning the same amount of stadium points as a result of their victory. In terms of close matches, players now receive stadium points for each round they manage to win within a ranked game.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that the Competitive Points system doesn’t end at All-Star and Legend ranks. So, whether you’re an All-Star or a Legend, your hard work will be rewarded! No more agonizing over those grueling seven-map matches due to a lack of recognition for your efforts!
Blizzard Entertainment has released the patch notes for the commencement of Overwatch 2 Season 18, which include details about the new guidelines for team formation in ranked Stadium matches. These modifications are aimed at upholding fair play in competitive gaming.
