Emma Stone’s sci-fi remake debuts with perfect Rotten Tomatoes score as new trailer lands

Emma Stone’s latest film, titled “Bugonia,” was well-received following its debut at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.

Under the guidance of acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos, the new movie has garnered a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 17 critic reviews), with many commending its unique and emotionally impactful narrative that leaves viewers both unsettled and moved.

A modern adaptation in English of the 2003 South Korean film “Save the Green Planet“, it tells the story of “two individuals deeply entrenched in conspiracy theories” who “abduct the CEO of a prominent corporation, believing her to be an extraterrestrial bent on destroying our planet Earth.

During its debut in Venice, the movie also released its initial full-length trailer, approximately two months following the unveiling of the first sneak peek.

As reported by Variety, Bugonia received a prolonged standing ovation lasting six minutes after its initial public viewing. This response came from the Venice audience who were seen shielding their eyes and letting out breathless gasps during the movie’s more suspenseful scenes.

The Guardian characterized the movie as a delicate, thorny, and exotic bloom in a greenhouse, whereas The Telegraph praised Lanthimos’ ability to skillfully extract maximum comic tension. In their opinion, “I haven’t seen a film this year that seems so relevant for a world in chaos.

During its evaluation, Variety praised Stone for her role, yet it was Jesse Plemons who delivered the most exceptional performance in the movie.

Will Tracy, known for his work on “The Menu” and “The Regime” of HBO, was responsible for writing the script for the sci-fi remake.

This is Stone’s fourth movie collaboration with Lanthimos, following their critically acclaimed works like “The Favourite,” “Poor Things,” and more recently, “Kinds of Kindness.

The performer is additionally featured in the latest film titled “Eddington“, which was directed and written by Ari Aster, who also took on a producer role in “Bugonia“.

Bugonia is released in UK and US cinemas in October.
