In the Stadium Draft mode of Overwatch 2, mirror restrictions have been removed, allowing players to choose any character they prefer, regardless of whether the opposing team has already picked that same character. This update was announced by game director Aaron Keller.

On August 28th, following the debut of Overwatch 2 Season 18 and its fresh Stadium updates, Keller announced that the rule restricting mirrored heroes would no longer be enforced in Stadium Draft mode. This change allows players to freely choose any hero they prefer, regardless of the choices made by the opposing team.

Additionally, Keller expressed gratitude towards the players for testing the new feature and offering their valuable feedback. He further mentioned in the X discussion forum that his team aims to create Overwatch 2 as a game that players would enjoy playing. This objective is met by taking into account their suggestions and addressing them appropriately.

According to Keller’s post on X, the team remains committed to developing fresh and distinctive aspects for Overwatch. They value feedback but also take joy in surprising and thrilling players. On occasion, this might involve unveiling a fantastic new gaming experience, such as Stadium.

He added, “However, it also brings about risk and implies that not everything will be perfect every time. This does not mean we’ll abandon innovation entirely, but rather we’ll adjust and improve as swiftly as possible when things don’t turn out as planned.

Stadium Draft in Overwatch 2 Season 18

Before the August 28 post, an announcement for Overwatch 2 was made on August 25 detailing how the Stadium Draft mode would operate with a fair, rotating draft system for teams. The announcement mentioned that mirror matchups would not be allowed in this mode and emphasized that they would closely monitor the feature.
