Olivia Colman looks stylish as she joins co-star Benedict Cumberbatch at BBC studios to promote their remake of Hollywood classic The Roses

On Thursday, Olivia Colman and her co-star Benedict Cumberbatch appeared fashionable while visiting the BBC studios together to publicize their revamp of “The War of the Roses.

As a devoted admirer, I found myself beaming with joy, standing alongside the captivating actress (aged 51) and the enigmatic Dr. Strange star (aged 49), both of them radiating infectious laughter under an umbrella in the heart of Leicester Square, London. The energy was palpable, making the moment truly unforgettable.

Olivia donned a spacious, striped blazer, paired with a relaxed, cropped trouser set and high-heeled shoes in the same style.

Benedict wore a sharp outfit consisting of a white dress shirt, tucked under a T-shirt, and stylish black, fitted pants.

The offbeat divorce comedy titled “The Roses” is scheduled to be released on August 29, drawing inspiration from the 1981 novel “The War of the Roses.” It’s essentially a modern reinterpretation of the 1989 Hollywood film with the same name.

A duo portrays a husband and wife, reminiscent of Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner’s characters, as their once harmonious marriage slowly deteriorates, escalating comically into intense animosity and hostility due to an unbearable separation.

As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about this upcoming project! Known for his work on the hilarious Austin Powers series, Jay Roach is at the helm as director. And if that wasn’t enough to get me jumping with joy, the script has been penned by none other than Tony McNamara, the mastermind behind Poor Things. I simply can’t wait to see what they’ve cooked up together!

Additionally, the ensemble features Ncuti Gatwa, who takes on the role of the new Doctor Who, as well as renowned American comedians Andy Samberg and Kate McKinnon.

The filming was done in two locations – Salcombe, southern Devon, and Los Angeles. Last summer, the duo was first spotted on a Devon beach while shooting scenes there.

In the 1989 adaptation, Danny DeVito served both as director and actor portraying a divorce attorney. This was a reunion of the trio who had previously achieved great success in the 1984 adventure film Romancing the Stone and its sequel, The Jewel of the Nile.

The new version has been described as a ‘re-imagining’.

According to producers at Searchlight Pictures, it appears that the lives of seemingly perfect pair Theo and Ivy are effortlessly smooth sailing: flourishing careers, wonderful children, and a passion-filled love life.

However, beneath the appearance of a harmonious family, simmers deep-seated rivalries and grudges that explode when Theo’s career aspirations suffer a catastrophic collapse.

Or,

Although they present an image of a happy family, their private lives are filled with jealousy and lingering resentments that flare up when Theo experiences a devastating setback in his career.

Reports indicate that although both actors were eager to collaborate, tensions arose during production due to Benedict’s intense method acting style clashing with Olivia’s straightforward and efficient work ethic.

An individual close to the production shared with The Mail on Sunday that ‘The Roses’ was anticipated to be a relatively simple and uncomplicated filming process – centering around a couple who harbor mutual disdain for each other.

At times, Benedict seemed to approach it as if it were a Shakespearean production, aiming for a genuine connection with his role. And that’s absolutely reasonable.

Olivia tends to dive right into tasks without hesitation or excessive thought; she’s quite straightforward. In contrast, this comedy seems to have been heavily contemplated and planned out.

The interaction didn’t quite result in a harmonious chemistry between them. It was more comedic, reminiscent of a romantic comedy-not the overly sentimental genre that Benedict is usually associated with.

A spokesman for Cumberbatch attempted to play down the issues between the pair.
