When searching for hints about an upcoming blockbuster, toys might not always provide trustworthy information. This is because toy manufacturers have creative freedom, and movie production schedules and those of their merchandise don’t always align perfectly. Consequently, changes in the former aren’t necessarily mirrored in the latter. For instance, there were snowmen figurines marketed for James Gunn’s Superman, but upon watching the movie, you won’t find any abominable snowmen depicted.
In this specific instance, it appears that there wasn’t a scene featuring Superman battling yetis in the 2025 blockbuster movie as previously speculated. Instead, according to VFX artist Matthew Eberle (via ComicBook.com), who shared this information on Facebook, these creatures were initially part of an early film sequence that was ultimately removed during post-production.
Initially, as Krypto was pulling Superman along, they came across several deceased monstrous snow creatures resembling abominable snowmen… Superman then told Krypto, ‘You must stop killing these abominable snowmen’, but this particular scene didn’t make it to the final cut. I was present during the filming.
For individuals who haven’t watched the movie “Superman” yet, rest assured that this description doesn’t contain any spoilers because it refers to the very beginning of the film. In this initial scene, Superman (portrayed by David Corenswet) crashes in Antarctica after suffering his first defeat as a superhero. Despite being injured and covered in blood, he whistles for Krypto to pull him towards the nearby Fortress of Solitude.
Considering the potential placement of abominable snowmen within the scene, it’s clear why they may not have been included in the final edit of the movie. The scene already contains comedic elements, such as Krypto playfully jumping on Kal-El, unaware of his severe injuries. Introducing more humor could potentially lessen the impact of the dramatic moment at hand. Given that losing a battle is a transformative event for Superman, who appears to be in dire straits after engaging with the so-called Hammer of Boravia, maintaining tension and gravity in the scene seems crucial.
Under the guidance of DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, there’s a possibility that yeti-like creatures, often referred to as abominable snowmen, might make an appearance in the future DC Universe. It remains to be seen if any filmmakers will choose to introduce them, such as James Mangold in his upcoming “Swamp Thing” movie. Personally, I’d be thrilled to witness a showdown between Swamp Thing and some icy creatures on the big screen!
As far as blockbuster movies go, “Superman” is currently running in cinemas across the country (it ranked seventh in the box office Top 10 over the weekend). However, for those who can’t make it to the theater, the film is now accessible for digital rental and purchase from all major online platforms. Additionally, if you’re interested in a Superman and Krypto versus abominable snowman toy, they are available on Amazon.
