The program aired from 1994 to 2002, but instead of regular weekly episodes, it consisted of 21 full-length TV movies – a format that the more recent 2020 series has adopted for weekly airings. Notable Australian actors like Hugh Jackman, Hugo Weaving, and Richard Roxburgh made their debut in this show, along with other well-known Aussie names.

Halifax: Retribution has recently been added to Prime Video, joining the original Halifax fp.

Upon its release, there was a mixed response – largely positive – from both critics and fans, 18 years following the conclusion of the original series “Halifax”.

The article from The Guardian states that Rebecca Gibney is a powerful presence, yet the show’s comeback was somewhat uneven. On the other hand, Stuff described the show as having its appealing aspects, but overall it appears more like a relic from the early 21st century rather than something contemporary, impactful, and memorable.

According to IMDb users, the average rating for this show is 6.9 out of 10. A recurring criticism is that the music and editing have a tendency to resemble those found in music videos, which some viewers find distracting or negatively impacts their enjoyment.

People who enjoyed the program often described it as an “engrossing thriller” that was “hard to tear away from,” with many finding themselves captivated from the very first episode.

The series is beautifully filmed, with frequent aerial shots to emphasize the magnitude of the events causing Melbourne to tremble, while also showcasing the city’s charm. Additionally, the review commends Gibney and his co-star Claudia Karvan for their outstanding performances.
