Andy Samberg Reacted To The Death Of Seth Meyers’ Dog, And He’s Not Dropping The Bit: ‘It Was Inarguably Pretty Funny’

It’s been clear over the past ten years that Andy Samberg has had a longstanding dislike for Seth Meyers’ dog Frisbee. With the announcement of Frisbee’s passing, many offered their sympathies to the Late Night host and questioned how his longtime rival would react. Now, it seems that Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Samberg has addressed the news, and as it turns out, he’s continuing with the humorous feud he’s maintained for years.

As I was discussing my upcoming film “The Roses” in the 2025 lineup alongside my fellow SNL alum, Kate McKinnon, during an ET interview, the topic unexpectedly shifted to the passing of our beloved Frisbee. Before the actress could fully pose her question about it, I, a long-time joke maker regarding this canine companion, couldn’t help but share a quick wit:

“Well, Frisbee sure did have some high-flying acts in his day!”

A lighthearted tribute to a beloved character that brought joy to many.

Yeah, now we’re getting some real tea.

After completing her question, McKinnon asked Samberg about his feelings towards the obituaries highlighting his prolonged teasing of her, and if he had an explanation for where he was during her demise. To this, the actor from Palm Springs replied:

I didn’t kill Frisbee, as much as that would have delighted me.

It seems like he’s still clinging to this joke, doesn’t he? Given his history, it’s not entirely unexpected. Not too long before Frisbee’s passing, Meyers orchestrated a prank on Samberg, convincing him that his dog had died during an episode of Amy Poehler’s podcast, “Good Sports.” When the “Parks and Recreation” actor inquired if his guest was aware of Frisbee’s demise, he responded jovially, saying, “I won’t even entertain it because I’ll be so delighted,” before playfully ridiculing the tiny Italian Greyhound.

In the podcast that came out roughly a month prior to Frisbee’s death, he additionally expressed his stance of unwavering dislike towards his friend’s pet, stating he would never soften this sentiment.

Well, he kept that promise, because when McKinnon asked him why he had beef with Frisbee, he said:

Oh, just the general appearance and vibe and essence and feel…It has more talon than foot.

Samberg subsequently commented that he didn’t wish to appear insensitive about anyone’s passing. Yet, given his past public spat with this particular dog – similar to the alleged dislike between Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel, or the fabricated rivalry between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman – this whole incident seems rather amusing. He joked about it.

It’s important to show respect during significant moments like someone’s passing, but in this case, there was no denying that the joke was quite amusing, a clever jab at Seth. That joke was definitely a “burn” on Seth, and it seems like he can handle a fair share of discomfort. However, it’s also evident that he’s not exactly the nicest individual around.

Alongside the comedian continuously joking about the subject, Seth Meyers joined in by expressing his feelings and adding his own perspective on it. In a Instagram post discussing the internet’s reaction to Frisbee’s passing, he humorously pointed out that while he was indeed “sad” over the dog’s death, he couldn’t help but find it amusing that all headlines were focused on how much Andy Samberg supposedly despised her. On Twitter, Meyers even joked that this dislike wasn’t one-sided as he humorously noted that the Italian Greyhound also seemed to dislike his former SNL colleague.

In summary, this incident underscores the ability of humor to emerge from tragic circumstances. Although we’re deeply saddened by Frisbee’s untimely demise, it’s challenging not to chuckle at the significant influence Andy Samberg had in consistently teasing her, an influence that persisted even beyond her death.
