Pierce Brosnan shares the unique request made for him to portray Ron Ritchie within “The Thursday Murder Club” movie.

In an interview with Digital Spy, the actor shared that he had the book handy for reference and would often revisit it. Director Chris Columbus presented him with the part of Ron Ritchie, which came as a surprise, and he accepted without asking further questions.

I chose to go along with him, relying on his intuition because we had collaborated on two previous films,” Brosnan explained. “He simply told me to grow a beard, and I understood his intention. The character, in many ways, embodies a working-class man who champions for others – similar to a social worker. The script was filled with subtle and genuine emotions, so I just followed it closely.

Through the book, I gained a deep understanding of Jason’s character – he’s a man with a somewhat questionable past, yet he has an incredibly tender heart towards his father. As we began to work on it, bringing it to life felt effortless.

Daniel Mays, who plays DCI Chris Hudson, found the book incredibly useful as well. “Richard Osman wrote the book so brilliantly that it was like a treasure trove for me,” he said. “There was just so much material to draw from, and I found myself revisiting it often. It was like a guidebook in helping me develop Chris Hudson’s character, so it played a big part in bringing him to life.

The Thursday Murder Club is currently playing at selected UK theaters, and it will be available for streaming on Netflix starting August 28th.
