Yellowstone cast reunion as THREE of the show’s stars join heartthrob Luke Grimes for his spinoff

Three former students from Yellowstone have teamed up with the popular show’s leading man, Luke Grimes, in preparation for his upcoming spin-off series, Y: Marshals.

Luke, age 41, gained widespread recognition for his role as Kayce Dutton, the son of John Dutton, a rancher patriarch, in the hugely popular TV show. (Informal: Luke, 41, became famous playing Kayce Dutton, the son of Kevin Costner’s character, who is a rancher patriarch on the hit series.)

Back in March, three months since Yellowstone wrapped up, I nearly fell off my seat when I heard the buzz that Luke, our beloved Kayce, is set to return in a future cop drama!

The show, as it turns out, is titled “Y: Marshals.” It follows the character of Kayce, who leverages his expertise gained from being a Navy SEAL and a cowboy to work for the U.S. Marshals.

Seven fresh actors have been revealed, among them are three who Yellowstone viewers may immediately recall from the initial series.

17-year-old former child actor Brecken Merrill is set to reprise his role as Tate Dutton, son of character Kayce, in the upcoming series. Gil Birmingham will also return as the chief of Broken Rock Reservation, Thomas Rainwater, and Mo Brings Plenty will play his aide-de-camp, Mo, as reported by Deadline.

In addition to the stars of American Horror Story, Killers of the Flower Moon, and The Vampire Diaries, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, and Arielle Kebbel have also joined the project.

The characters named Andrea, Miles, and Belle will be part of the program regularly, portraying fellow U.S. Marshals alongside Kayce.

In the upcoming series, Brett Cullen, known for his role as Thomas Wayne (Batman’s father) in Joker, will play the recurring character, Harry Gifford, who heads the U.S. Marshals service in Montana.

The character played by Logan Marshall-Green as Prometheus’s Logan, who was previously confirmed to portray Kayce’s former military companion Pete Calvin, will also appear alongside the marshals.

There’s still no word if Kelsey Asbille will return to play Monica Dutton, the character she portrays as Kayce’s wife and Tate’s mom, in Yellowstone.

In simpler terms, the show’s tagline implies that the character Kayce will strive for fairness in Montana, a place where he and his comrades must juggle their family obligations, loyalty to duty, and the significant emotional toll they face as the final line of defense against violence in this region.

Luke shone brightly during the highly acclaimed five-season span of Yellowstone, playing the role of Kayce Dutton, a key character from the ranching family that serves as the show’s core.

In the middle of filming season five, Kevin decided to depart from the series, resulting in his character, John, being written out through a plot involving contracted assassination.

His exit from the show was shrouded in whispers about disagreements with Taylor Sheridan, but it appears he ultimately chose to leave due to scheduling complications between the show and his own four-part Western film, Horizon, which he directed, acted in, and co-wrote.

After decades of personal investment totaling $38 million, the highly anticipated initial segment of Horizon was released last year with underwhelming box office returns.

Simultaneously, Yellowstone aired the second part of its fifth season in 2024, causing division among fans. Shortly after that, Luke shared an insightful interview discussing Kevin’s departure from the show.

In his conversation with Men’s Health, Luke expressed that it was evident to everyone when John Dutton met his end, and admitted honestly that a significant portion of the series’ conflicts were absent following the departure of Kevin.

He mentioned that it wasn’t particularly enjoyable to be around during filming… He wasn’t blaming anyone specifically, but he found it to be the least challenging season they’ve ever filmed.

Luke admitted that he hasn’t talked to Kevin since the latter departed from the show, joking, “It’s nothing personal or hostile; it’s just, Kevin Costner is quite the celebrity. He carries a lot of weight.

He explained that he indeed has his contact number, but he feels it’s not appropriate for him to initiate contact. If the other person wishes to get in touch with him, they are welcome to do so.

According to exclusive footage from The Daily Mail, Kevin diplomatically addressed speculations about his rift with Luke, stating that they have yet to communicate since the series ended its run.
