Instead of taking Randy Travis off life-supporting medical equipment at the advice of doctors following a stroke a dozen years ago, his wife Mary chose to trust her instincts because she was confident that the country singer had faith in himself and would fight to recover.
Mary shared with Fox News Digital on Tuesday that, in her opinion, there was no question in Randy’s mind that he would persevere through his challenges. Notably, Randy has utilized AI technology in recent years to continue making music following a stroke that took away his voice.
Mary mentioned that doctors once proposed allowing them to turn off the life support systems that were sustaining 66-year-old Randy during his critical health phase after his stroke in July 2013, as his various health problems accumulated.
In that special instant when I stood by his bed, they announced, “It’s time to turn off the life support,” Mary explained. At that juncture, he faced an overwhelming number of obstacles.
Mary told the outlet about some of the most tense moments in her spouse’s yearslong health battle.
I was absolutely devastated as I watched him battle a relentless series of infections, starting with staph, followed by Serratia, Pseudomonas, and more,” I found myself lamenting. “The doctors were shaking their heads, saying he didn’t seem to have the resilience to pull through this ordeal.

Mary shared an account where the doctors informed them that, due to a drastic drop in vital signs and a low red blood cell count, her situation was critically precarious.
In Mary’s words, she shared that it was at this point when she approached him. This encounter was significant as she felt confident that Randy Travis would achieve success because he affectionately held her hand and tears rolled down his face. Moved by the moment, she exclaimed, “He’s not giving up!
Mary adopted a protective motherly stance, telling doctors they would work diligently to stand by him during challenging conditions.
At that moment, given all the odds stacked against him, it was clear he wouldn’t quit. And honestly, his determination really inspired me. He became my source of motivation. (spouse speaking)
