Entertainment commentator airs sensational conspiracy theory on why the AFL chose Snoop Dogg for the Grand Final

An Australian media personality has shared their opinion regarding the contentious move by the Australian Football League (AFL) to invite American hip-hop artist, Snoop Dogg, as the performer for the upcoming Grand Final.

The decision to have a popular star appear at the AFL’s main event has sparked disagreement among Australians, as some believe that by inviting an artist like Snoop Dogg, who has previously caused controversy with his song lyrics, the league is deviating from its commitment to respecting women.

Discussing the anticipated performance of the artist famous for “Gin and Juice” at the MCG, entertainment journalist Peter Ford shared his thoughts on why this legendary rapper was selected for such a prominent event.

On 3AW Breakfast with Ross and Russell, Peter explained on Monday that including Snoop in the celebrations wasn’t specifically connected to the event itself.

He asserted that the action was aimed at generating interest for a future AFL documentry series, scheduled to debut on Amazon Prime in 2026.

According to Peter, he asserted that it has a direct connection with the Amazon Prime-produced TV series focusing on the Premier League season.

‘By having Snoop Dogg there, it will get international attention for the doco series.

‘That’s why they were willing to bite the bullet and cop all the backlash.’

Additionally, he stated that Snoop Dogg was an unexpected pick, going against the norm of previous performers who were renowned for their crowd-pleasing hit songs.

‘I thought he was an unusual choice,’ he said.

‘I prefer acts who have got anthemic songs that the whole crowd can join in and get revved up by.’

He made the choice to hire Snoop, but acknowledged that there might be complications (or “issues”) associated with this, and the AFL is willing to deal with these potential complexities in order to guarantee the success of the documentary.

Using Snoop Dogg certainly comes with its share of associated issues, and offering him that role may send conflicting signals about the AFL.

The upcoming, still unnamed documentary series aims to share AFL with a global audience, focusing on events and happenings throughout the 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final season.

Created by the same group responsible for the popular Netflix shows, “F1 Drive To Survive” and “Tour de France: Unchained”, this documentary is scheduled to premiere on the streaming platform around the year 2026.

Daily Mail has reached out to the AFL for comment.

Following the assertion made by former AFL star-turned-broadcaster Brendan Fevola that Snoop Dogg might get dropped because of controversies over his lyrics concerning women and the LGBTQ+ community, Peter voiced his thoughts.

Regarding Snoop Dogg, I could share some interesting tidbits, as mentioned on 101.9 The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick show on Monday.

‘They’re going to axe him.’

‘Because of his lyrics in his song and he talked about gay parents over the weekend.

‘I think he will get the a**e, and they are going to go for an Aussie artist to play at the MCG.

‘That will happen, take that to the bank. He will get the [a**e], which he should.’

Given Snoop’s huge profile, the move would be sure to make headlines outside Australia.

Previously, AFL CEO Andrew Dillon publicly justified the reported $2 million fee for Snoop’s performance at the grand final.

As your trusted lifestyle guide, I want to clarify that while we strive to bring you the best artists, both local and international, it’s important to remember that I can’t guarantee the accuracy of every lyric in every song they perform here. Artists have creative freedom to express themselves, and their lyrics may reflect their personal perspectives or experiences.

‘It’s also important to remember that we have engaged Snoop Dogg in 2025 as the person he is today.
