Irish rap group Kneecap cancels U.S. tour, citing court date

The Irish hip-hop band, Kneecap, has called off all their scheduled US performances for their upcoming tour due to the backlash they faced following their outspoken criticisms against Israel and support for Palestinian issues. This controversy led to both legal issues and criticism.

To our fans in the United States, we regret to inform you that due to scheduling conflicts and a pending court hearing in London on September 26, we are forced to cancel all 15 US tour dates scheduled for October. Given that every show was sold out, we understand this news may be disappointing. However, once our court case is resolved (which we anticipate will be in our favor), we plan to return with an even bigger tour for all of you.

The trio, who call themselves the ‘Sunscreen Trio’, have journeyed from the other side of the Atlantic to play their music at the hallowed music grounds in Indio this coming Friday.

The court case involving Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, known by his stage name Mo Chara, arises from accusations that he displayed a flag representing the terrorist organization Hezbollah during a performance in London the previous year. (He has refuted these claims, stating that neither he nor the band endorse Hezbollah).

The band’s Canadian shows will continue as scheduled.

Kneecap’s U.S. tour faced uncertainties, as they parted ways with their booking agency, Independent Artist Group, in April after their Coachella show, which featured strong criticism of the Israeli government and its actions against Gaza, causing a stir.

During their latest show at Glastonbury, the band faced criticism from the local British authorities for similar advocacy supporting Palestine, leading to an investigation although no charges have been filed so far.
