Ch4knu on leaving Smart Omega for TNC: “I felt sad, but a bit happy to meet old teammates”

A new chapter for Ch4knu this MPL PH Season 16.

For approximately five years, Joshua “Ch4knu” Mangilog has been the essence and spirit of Smart Omega, earning this reputation even before its name change from Execration. In the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines (MPL PH) community, he was already a well-known figure. His casual demeanor was one factor that made him beloved by many. It’s safe to say he is a legend in his own right within this gaming scene.

Regardless of how far a journey may be, there comes a point where every path forks. After many seasons wearing the same uniform, Ch4knu found himself becoming overly comfortable. His performance suffered and his playing time diminished, leading him to be relegated as a substitute player. Change was imminent. In MPL PH Season 16, he made the decision to move on and join a new team.

During a conversation with Xpsp, Ch4knu discussed his shift from Smart Omega to his latest team, TNC Pro Team, and shared their current progress.

A Farewell to Smart Omega

The decision was significant not only for him personally, but also for the entire league. Few players have been as synonymous with one team as Ch4knu has been with Smart Omega. His departure seemed like the end of an era, resonating deeply not just for the player, but for the devoted fanbase that had supported him so passionately over the years.

In MPL PH Season 16, his first appearance held additional significance as fate pitted him against his former team, TNC, in his inaugural series. Despite the revamped Smart Omega proving too strong for the Phoenix Army, resulting in a 1-2 series loss, the match wasn’t solely about the final score for Ch4knu. Rather, it served as an opportunity for him to confront his new circumstances, acknowledging the emotional aspect of leaving a familiar environment he had been part of for nearly five years.

Leaving Smart Omega made me feel a mix of emotions – sadness because I was saying goodbye, but also a hint of happiness as I rejoined my former teammates.

Upon joining TNC, Ch4knu was once again surrounded by acquaintances like Frederic “Bennyqt” Gonzales and coach Patrick “E2MAX” Caidic, who had a past together in Execration. However, the transition hasn’t been smooth-sailing. Over time, playstyles have changed, relationships require rekindling, and there’s an adjustment period to be navigated.

When asked whether it feels like “home” again, Ch4knu admitted that the process is ongoing.

This place doesn’t quite feel like home yet. It’s taking some time to get used to it since it’s been so long since we last spent time together. In essence, I’m learning to acclimate here.

As he puts it, the main challenge lies in building strong team dynamics. Effective communication is key as they strive to transform themselves into a unified and harmonious team.

Could it be a matter of fostering connections with them? Perhaps exploring methods to bridge gaps or cultivate rapport – essentially, something along those lines. We’re brainstorming strategies to enhance our relationships.

In keeping with his character, TNC Ch4knu took time to express sincere sentiments towards his supporters, acknowledging that they might welcome his move to a new team. While he isn’t known for lengthy speeches, his brief words were heartfelt and effectively conveyed his feelings.

TNC Pro Team shows promise, but the road won’t be easy

In the debut week of MPL PH Season 16, TNC Pro Team failed to secure any victories. As a result, they currently hold an 8th position in the rankings with a record of 0 wins and 2 losses.

Although we’ve reached a point in the regular season, there are still seven weeks remaining. This extended period could provide the Ch4knu and TNC Pro Team an opportunity to refine their teamwork and potentially reverse their current situation.
