Towards the conclusion of Season 3 of “Mayor of Kingstown,” it became evident that power dynamics were on the verge of significant changes. With Edie Falco and other new cast members joining the mix, it seems that potential new contenders for power are entering the scene. However, the past is also set to play a role, as co-creator and actor Hugh Dillon hinted that not only will the past catch up but it will be reloaded this season. This has sparked a theory in me regarding Jeremy Renner’s character and his history as an inmate.
What Hugh Dillon Said About How The Past Will Impact Mayor Of Kingstown Season 4
The popular TV series “Mayor of Kingstown” is set to return to our screens on October 26, 2025, and actor Hugh Dillon is building anticipation for what’s to come. As usual, it promises to be intense, but this season seems to delve into the past in a way we haven’t experienced before. The co-creator shared this intriguing detail with Entertainment Weekly.
The past doesn’t merely repeat itself; it regains its strength and comes back. In Mike’s situation, it has already arrived. Unlike many others, Mike doesn’t flee from his past, but instead confronts it head-on. What makes him intriguing is that he is not driven by fear or greed, but rather stands firm to face the truth about his character. Essentially, we delve into the authenticity of who Mike truly is.
Dillon referred to this season as “an explosion rather than an intensification,” suggesting that the tension accumulated over three seasons reaches its peak and explodes. It seems to me that we’ll reach a similar point by delving into Mike’s past experiences in prison. Therefore, let’s discuss the reasons behind this decision.

To watch “Mayor of Kingstown,” which is mostly available on Paramount+, you can subscribe for as low as $7.99 per month. Check out the deal here!
I’m Theorizing That The Time Jeremy Renner’s Character Spent In Prison Will Be Important This Season
Throughout the entire season of “Mayor of Kingstown,” it is evident that Mike’s past has been a persistent theme. His background as a former inmate significantly shapes the narrative, and his family’s connections to the prison system and law enforcement have a profound influence on the series’ events. Despite this, there are many unanswered questions regarding Mike’s time in prison, particularly what exactly transpired while he was incarcerated.
Moreover, characters are being revisited by their past, as demonstrated by the reappearance of Aidan Gillen’s character, Milo, in the previous season.
So, in Season 4, I’m theorizing that Mike’s past in prison is going to be paramount to the plot.

Mike’s younger sibling, Kyle, is currently incarcerated, having been arrested at the end of Season 3 for a shooting incident involving a fellow SWAT team member who appeared to be threatening an innocent person. This situation seems likely to affect Mike deeply, and I can easily imagine scenes depicting his struggle to save his brother from prison, with potential parallels between their situations being too compelling to ignore.
As a cinephile, I’m musing over the notion that Dillon was hinting at when he mentioned the past repeating itself. The chilling similarity between these siblings’ predicaments is eerie, and with a fresh warden taking over after Kareem’s demise, and the persistent power struggle in Kingstown, it seems like an unopened chapter from the past that’s eager to be unearthed once more.
You can catch up with the Season 4 premiere of “Mayor of Kingstown” by streaming it on Paramount+ starting October 26, to find out what happens.
