Dexter’s “dark” spin-offs announce big twist

Showtime reveals a major surprise in store for the Dexter series, as one of its offshoot productions is halted.

Initially airing from 2006 to 2013, the series called Dexter portrayed the story of a police department employee named Dexter Morgan, who in reality was a serial killer. This unfolded in the city of Miami.

The well-liked series has been expanded with a sequel, prequel, and revival, including “Dexter: New Blood” from 2021, “Dexter: Original Sin” scheduled for 2024, and the upcoming “Dexter: Resurrection” this year.

What to Read Next

As reported by Deadline, the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin has unexpectedly been terminated after just one season, despite an earlier renewal announcement in April.

Last year towards the end and concluding on Valentine’s Day, the series ‘Original Sin’ featured Patrick Gibson portraying a younger version of Dexter, alongside stars such as Patrick Dempsey, Christian Slater, Christina Milian, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

The series chronicles a 15-year-old named Dexter, who grapples with his violent instincts and tries to find balance, even as he serves as an intern on the forensic team within the local police station.

Based on Deadline’s news update, it appears that the ’90s prequel series is no longer being produced, while the upcoming installment in the Dexter franchise titled “Dexter: Resurrection” has progressed to assemble a team of writers for Season 2.

Though an official announcement for a second season of Resurrection hasn’t been made yet, the article indicates that the writing team has already been assigned, with the hope of proceeding if financial agreements are reached.

At present, we’re in the first season of a new series, the third offshoot, which has been well-received by critics. This series continues the storyline post the events where Dexter’s son, Harrison, shot him in ‘New Blood’.

In the story titled “Resurrection”, Dexter emerges from a coma only to discover that his son, Harrison, has mysteriously disappeared without leaving any clues. As a result, he embarks on a journey to New York City, following leads and hoping to find his lost child.

In this bustling city that never rests, a father and son journey through their personal struggles. Unbeknownst to them, they delve far beyond their initial expectations. The sole escape lies in their unity.

In this new take, Michael C Hall once again steps into the shoes of character Dexter, accompanied by an impressive ensemble that includes Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Eric Stonestreet, and Neil Patrick Harris.

Dexter: Resurrection streams on Paramount+.
