DCU: First Details About James Gunn’s Secret DC Project Just Dropped

James Gunn, head of DC Studios, recently hinted at some initial details regarding a clandestine DC project that’s been a subject of whispers. Apart from his upcoming DC Universe movies (including “The Batman: Part II” and Gunn’s sequel to the Superman film), there have been recurrent references to various secret projects in development at DC Studios.

Although enthusiasts have suggested characters like Green Arrow and The Terrifics for potential focus of these hidden titles, specifics about them have mostly stayed vague (despite one of them apparently featuring in the upcoming lineup of DCU titles). With the launch of Peacemaker Season 2, Gunn provided a sneak peek into these secret DC projects (presumably a new TV series), offering fans some insights into its plot.

In a chat with GQ, Frank Grillo, who plays Rick Flag, revealed that James Gunn has discussed with him about an undisclosed DC Universe project.

At the premiere of Peacemaker Season 2, Grillo mentioned to the DCU star that they had something significant for him and emphasized, “You’re right in the thick of it!

He moved closer and asked, “Aren’t you aware of what’s approaching next?” To which I replied, “I’m not.” He then stated, “There’s a major event on the horizon, and you’ll be right in the thick of it.

For the first time, details about Rick Flag’s future in the DC Universe have been shared, indicating that Joe Grillo’s character from ARGUS will significantly impact at least one storyline involving superheroes in the franchise.

For the undisclosed DC Universe project, there’s been no revelation about the characters or storyline yet. But what we do know is that an unnamed TV show is in the most advanced stages of development. This upcoming series is speculated to air on HBO Max, following the pattern of other DC Universe shows. It’s also been hinted as one of the next projects that DC Studios might start producing soon.

What Do We Know About the Secret DCU TV Show

Following the launch of Superman, discussions about the top-secret DC projects led by DC Studios head James Gunn have noticeably gained momentum and intensity.

Gunn initiated things towards the end of July, sharing with journalists that the studio was developing an unannounced TV series within the DC Universe which he referred to as his “most cherished project” in the entire DCU. Additionally, he mentioned that he was actively working on a new Superman film.

Besides that, I eagerly await the creation of another TV show that I absolutely adore. It’s simply my top choice.

The man responsible for DC’s on-screen productions made some impressive statements about an as-yet-unrevealed TV series. This upcoming show seems to be highly valued, even more so than well-known titles such as “Lanterns,” “The Brave and the Bold,” and “Supergirl.” This suggests that when it eventually premieres, this show is expected to make a significant impact in the television landscape.

Among enthusiasts, it’s widely believed that the highly-regarded television series may be an adaptation of DC Comics’ team known as The Terrifics. In the original comics, The Terrifics are a group headed by Mister Terrific who function on the primary DC Earth and the enigmatic Dark Multiverse.

Fans generally think that the much-loved TV series could be based on DC Comics’ team called The Terrifics. In the source material, The Terrifics are a squad led by Mister Terrific who operate within the primary DC Earth and the cryptic Dark Multiverse.

Given Edi Gathegi’s outstanding portrayal of Mister Terrific in the 2025 Superman film, it seems logical for DC Studios to capitalize on this success by expanding his role and providing him with a dedicated series, allowing him to continue captivating audiences after his blockbuster debut.

Surely, it’s possible that Rick Flagg could be part of the television show, or perhaps Gunn was hinting at the actor taking on a more significant role in the upcoming untitled Superman sequel film featuring his DC character.
