The most prominent girl band in the music scene today goes all out for their followers – even taking on mythical threats if necessary.
The central trio in the imaginative series “KPop Demon Hunters” on Netflix, known as Huntr/x, has been leading the pack on music charts and captivating viewers worldwide on Netflix. Now, enthusiasts of their tunes and the show are being treated to a special event: limited theater screenings where singing along is encouraged.
Over this coming weekend – on both Saturday and Sunday – audiences from various parts of the U.S., along with some international locations, will be able to catch “KPop Demon Hunters A Sing-Along Event” on movie screens.
Approximately 1,700 movie screens across the United States and Canada are scheduled to screen the film, with over 1,000 shows already selling out by Wednesday, according to a representative from Netflix. This implies that there’s a significant demand for the film.
After its debut in June, this animated musical film has attracted passionate followers of all ages. The story revolves around Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, who are part of Huntr/x – renowned K-Pop stars during the day but demon hunters at night. Their voices hold a unique power that helps maintain the Honmoon, a magical barrier shielding the world from supernatural threats.

World & Nation
In my perspective, I’m thrilled to be part of the global excitement surrounding ‘K-pop Demon Hunters,’ a cinematic creation hailing from the United States. Its captivating appeal in South Korea is undoubtedly due to its thoughtful incorporation of Korean folklore, pop culture, and daily life, creating a unique blend that resonates deeply with local audiences.
At a sing-along screening of the Netflix film at the Tudum Theater on Tuesday, Jasmine Paige Moore – one of the initial supporters of the movie – shared her view that watching it in a cinema offered a more immersive experience than streaming it.
She remarked that the sing-along achieves extraordinary levels,” she said. “To truly appreciate this movie, picture it being watched among enthusiastic fans, everyone present to relish the experience, an experience that won’t recur.
Moore, an actor and cosplayer, mentioned that he intends to go to two extra showings of the movie featuring his sparkle-clad Mira-inspired character, over the coming weekend.

‘Golden,’ ‘Takedown’ and all the songs you’ve been hearing on TikTok
If you haven’t watched “KPop Demon Hunters” yet, you might still be familiar with some of its popular tunes that are widely available on music streaming platforms and social media. One noteworthy track is “Golden,” a hopeful anthem sung by the Huntr/x girls in the movie, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and remains high-ranking.
The soundtrack marks a rare occasion over the past 28 years, featuring three tracks that made it to the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Among them are “Golden”, along with “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop,” which are tunes by the Saja Boys, the rival K-pop group featured in the movie.
The Huntr/x team has now made history as the first female collective to achieve the number one spot on the Hot 100 chart in the past 24 years, a feat last accomplished by Destiny’s Child with their song “Bootylicious” back in August 2001.
As a devoted film enthusiast, let me share some exciting news about the casting of voices in an upcoming movie. Personally, I can’t wait to see Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo bring their unique talents to the Huntr/x characters by lending their voices. But that’s not all! In a captivating twist, real-life K-pop sensations EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami will be singing as the fictional group in the film, adding an extra layer of entertainment to this already intriguing production.
As a cinephile, I must express my admiration for the exceptional soundtrack of this film. Instead of the lead characters, renowned K-pop artists like Andrew Choi, Danny Chung, Kevin Woo, and Lea Salonga gracefully lend their voices to the original songs, adding an extra layer of musical brilliance to an already captivating movie experience.
Among those involved are composers such as Chung, EJAE, TEDDY, 24, Vince, and KUSH. Marcelo Zarvos was responsible for penning the original music score.
The movie’s record-breaking popularity
Beyond leading music rankings, “KPop Demon Hunters” has been a hit on Netflix as well. The film premiered on the streaming platform on June 20 and has remained on its Top 10 list since then. Currently, it holds the record for the most-watched original animated movie in Netflix’s history, as stated by the streamer itself.
Additionally, “Red Notice” holds the number one position as the most-watched English-language film on the platform, boasting over 200 million views and 350 million hours of watch time. The movie in question is a 2021 action comedy featuring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot.

It appears that “KPop Demon Hunters” has struck the perfect balance, leveraging the intense fervor for K-pop music, as well as popular Korean TV shows such as the acclaimed Netflix series “Squid Game,” and its own unique animated productions.
During an initial screening of the sing-along adaptation at Netflix, EJAE – known as the vocalist for Rumi and a creator of several hit songs from the film – expressed her astonishment at the enthusiastic audience reception towards both the movie and its music.
She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the excited audience before the screening, saying how fortunate she felt to be involved in this wild and popular cultural movement.
“Are you guys ready to sing some high notes?” she asked, referencing Rumi’s range.
Where and how to catch a sing-along screening
Enthusiasts of the movie and its music have a short time left to experience “KPop Demon Hunters” on the big screen. This musical extravaganza is happening exclusively in cinemas this very weekend, with showings taking place in various locations throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.K.
In Los Angeles, a variety of theaters are offering showings of the sing-along film. These include the TCL Chinese Theatre, Alamo Drafthouse, as well as multiple Cinemark and Regal theaters scattered throughout the L.A. region. Tickets for these performances are currently available for purchase.
