In simpler terms, the North American esports team known as compLexity Gaming has stepped away from the game Counter-Strike 2 due to financial difficulties. This decision resulted in their release of the team’s players, who were globally ranked at number 20.
As a gamer speaking for myself, I was taken aback by the surprising announcement from North American esports group compLexity Gaming. They revealed they’re parting ways with their CS:2 team and are stepping back from the game completely. The CS:2 squad, which ranks #20 in the Valve Rankings, peaked at an impressive #13 earlier this year, but it seems their journey is coming to an end within the competitive scene.
CompLexity is one of the longest-standing North American organizations that continues to be active in the Counter-Strike community. This organization’s journey in Counter-Strike started as far back as 2003, and they’ve fielded teams for each major version of the game – from the original Counter-Strike to CS:Source, CS:GO, and even CS2. Since 2012, CompLexity has consistently had a Counter-Strike team on its roster.

compLexity exits CS2 amid financial struggles
The head of CompLexity, Jason Lake, announced through a video on social media that Complexity is leaving Counter-Strike 2. He explained that it was a challenging decision for the organization, but the reasoning behind it was straightforward.
In a recent official video update, Jason Lake expressed that while 2023 and 2024 were exceptionally successful years for us in the esports economy, 2025 has proven quite difficult. To put it plainly, we’ve struggled to generate sufficient income to maintain a top-tier team as expected.
As a devoted fan, I feel it was essential for us to act swiftly. We had the option to prolong the situation, but ultimately, we believed it was crucial to honor our players and uphold the integrity of the division. This decision seemed fitting in the current circumstances.
The originator of compLexity Gaming couldn’t manage to secure more funding or income, which was necessary to retain their Counter-Strike 2 team.
Jason Lake stated that financially, things have been extremely challenging, leading to a reduction in income this year which left us with little choice but to adapt. He acknowledged that this change may be disheartening for many, yet reassured everyone that every effort was made to navigate through the situation effectively.
As CoL’s departure signaled the close of an era, the players promptly established a sense of continuity by moving to their new base.

Roster finds new home at Passion UA
As a gamer, I’ve got some exciting news to share: The old Complexity squad I used to be part of has joined Passion UA, except for Cxzi who’s still up in the air as a free agent. Kvem, Vladyslav from Passion UA, will fill the remaining spot on our team. Previously, the entire roster of Passion UA was let go on August 15.
