
For the very first time, the monochrome adaptation of “Shin Godzilla” will be screened in U.S. theaters.
In simpler terms, Shin Godzilla is a 2016 Japanese monster movie that was directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. This film, the 31st installment in the extensive Godzilla series, was produced jointly by Toho Pictures and Cine Bazar. In this movie, Hiroki Hasegawa portrays Rando Yaguchi, Yutaka Takenouchi plays Hideki Akasaka, and Satomi Ishihara assumes the role of Kayoko Anne Patterson.
In 2023, for Godzilla’s 70th anniversary, a black-and-white version of Shin Godzilla, titled Shin Godzilla: ORTHOchromatic, was shown in Japanese theaters, but it didn’t make its way to US cinemas. However, starting this month, GKIDS is offering American viewers a chance to watch it on the big screen.
When is the black and white edition of Shin Godzilla coming to United States theaters?
In August 2025, a special monochrome version of Shin Godzilla is set for exclusive screenings in U.S. cinemas on the 31st. It will be presented in its native Japanese language, accompanied by English subtitles.
