Sydney Sweeney hits back at outrage surrounding oversexualized ads and insists all her moves are ‘strategic’

Sydney Sweeney is clapping back at critics who claim she’s cashing in on an oversexualized image.

27-year-old actress from Euphoria is highly sought after in Hollywood, appearing as the lead in big-screen films and television productions, as well as endorsing numerous advertising campaigns.

Over the past twelve months, the founder of Fifty-Fifty Films has produced advertisements for a diverse range of products, including Baskin Robbins’ ice cream, Laneige lip balm, and the Samsung Galaxy 25 Edge.

As an ardent supporter, I’ve noticed some accusations that she might be overdoing it with her provocative advertising strategies. However, in my perspective, it’s clear that there’s a great deal of careful consideration behind those tantalizing ad campaigns, as asserted by Sweeney herself.

The two-time Emmy nominee stressed to The Wall Street Journal that it’s crucial to stay attuned to public opinions, as everything essentially boils down to engaging with the audience in an ongoing dialogue.

Among her surprising business ventures was a partnership with Dr. Squatch, where they launched a special collection of soaps impregnated with her own bathwater as a unique edition.

Despite being heavily criticized across various social media platforms and making headlines, Sweeney firmly stood by his choice, even doubling down on it.

She remarked that it was predominantly the girls who were commenting on it, and she found this intriguing, she continued without showing much reaction. In essence, they appeared to be fascinated by the concept of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.

In response to being queried about whether she was considering her moves carefully during these attention-grabbing initiatives, the actress affirmed that indeed, she was thinking strategically, and with emphasis, replied “Absolutely.

The artist chose not to discuss her debated American Eagle’s autumn denim advertising campaign, which prominently featured the slogan, “Sydney Sweeney rocks some amazing jeans.

Critics harshly criticized the advertisement, labeling it as “extreme” or “propagandistic,” while accusing it of subtly promoting racial biases, eugenics, and white superiority.

Sweeney has not publicly addressed the controversy.

In her recent interview, the actress who starred in Sharp Objects shared that she typically likes to be actively involved in all projects she agrees to participate in.

She confessed that it’s quite challenging for her to stay seated on the film set in a chair. Essentially, she wishes to inquire about the budget, specific allocations (line items), and potential areas for improvement.

When asked if she would still work with her former fiance Jonathan Davino following their breakup earlier this year, the star indicated that she preferred not to discuss her personal feelings of heartache.

‘I’m going to keep all of my personal stuff out of it,’ she told the magazine.

In addition, Sweeney revisited her earlier statements from 2022 where she expressed concerns about covering expenses such as her publicist, stylist fees, and mortgage payments if she decided to take a break for half a year.

Looking back, she says her comments were less about money and more about her nonstop work ethic.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to clarify my earlier point: I haven’t had the luxury of taking six months off, primarily due to my hectic schedule. Even now, it remains demanding. The reason behind this is that I prefer not to take such an extended break, as the thought of doing so gives me anxiety. It’s challenging for me to even imagine taking a few days off.

She mentioned that she often keeps some flexibility in her calendar for unsolicited opportunities. However, should I decide to fill up all my time slots, I believe I could be fully scheduled for the next three to four years.

And despite her packed calendar, Sweeney insists she wouldn’t have it any other way.

‘Being on set is my happy place,’ she said.

In simpler terms, when asked about it, director Paul Feig, known for directing The Housemaid, supported her statement, complimenting her dedication despite the challenges she faced on a personal level.

The person stated that ‘She was deeply engaged in her work. Her emotional presence was always there, ready for any challenge, and she never let personal problems interfere with the job,’ he said. ‘Despite going through a difficult time, such as her engagement ending, she managed to keep her private life separate from her professional one. When I asked if she was alright, she would assure me that she was fine or even great, not in a defensive manner.’

Over the past two years, her success has dramatically skyrocketed.

According to WSJ, she was reportedly paid $65,000 for the film, Reality in 2023.

A year later, she secured $2 million for her rom-com Anyone But You, alongside Glen Powell.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must share an exciting update! By the time I secured my role in The Housemaid, set to release on Christmas Day, my asking fee had climbed up to an impressive $7.5 million. It’s been quite a journey to reach this point!
