A “gritty” and ‘different’ crime drama with stars from Broadchurch and The Gold is on TV tonight

Tonight, the English-language premiere of “Mudtown,” a crime drama featuring Matthew Gravelle from “Broadchurch,” will air on television.

Tonight at 9pm, the show named “Mudtown” is scheduled to broadcast on U&Alibi. It has been eight months since the Welsh version of the show (“Ar y Ffin”) was aired first, both on S4C and BBC iPlayer.

The series, filmed simultaneously in both Welsh and English versions around mid 2024, is recognized as a daring and raw crime drama that offers a fresh take on the genre. It’s set in Wales.

What to Read Next

The narrative centers around Claire Lewis Jones, a seasoned magistrate portrayed by Erin Richards from Gotham, as she grapples with personal struggles while overseeing court cases at the Newport Magistrates Court.

In the story, Claire’s loyalty to her community is challenged when her old friend Ned Humphries, who happens to be Beca’s daughter’s childhood companion, gets accused of arson. Things get more complicated as a notorious criminal named Saint Pete becomes involved in the situation.

Claire has known Saint Pete for quite some time now – might her past pose a threat to her current situation? As she digs deeper into the mystery and rumors swirl around her daughter’s latest bad-boy companion, Sonny Higgins, Claire begins to unravel a complex network of illegal activities that could potentially jeopardize both her and her family.

The show, featuring Tom Cullen from “The Gold” in its cast, is penned by Hannah Daniel, a former actor now writer (previously portraying DCI Morgan on “EastEnders”), and Georgia Lee, a real-life magistrate.

The show, according to U&Alibi, is characterized as an “adventurous” one. It’s highly recommended for enthusiasts of complex crime dramas, as it skillfully blends raw emotion with pointed social significance.

Last year, Daniel and Lee expressed their excitement about portraying the uncharted realm of the Magistrates Court, imbued with an authentic essence of South Wales.

We are absolutely thrilled to collaborate with these robust allies as we bring these captivating characters and their tale to life on the big screen!

Mudtown airs on U&Alibi tonight at 9pm.
