I Have Seen Clueless So Many Times, But Could Only Appreciate These Things On My Most Recent Watch

One of my all-time favorite movies is ‘Clueless’. I watched it frequently while growing up, and it’s a film that never seems to get old for me. In fact, I think I could recite the entire movie now! However, it has been at least five to ten years since I last saw it.”

This version keeps the original sentiment but aims to make the language more conversational while still maintaining clarity and coherence.

I’ve seen that movie numerous times in the past, thinking I didn’t need to watch it again anytime soon. But since it’s now thirty years old and one of the best films from the ’90s, I decided to give it another watch. To my surprise, certain elements caught my attention more this time around, and I even spotted some details I hadn’t noticed before.

Guess you can learn new things after your hundredth rewatch.

I Love The Dionne And Cher Friendship More This Time Because It Felt More Layered

Stacey Dash’s character Dionne and Alicia Silverstone’s character Cher in the movie Clueless have long been an example of a great friendship. While I hadn’t previously given much thought to their dynamic, it’s clear they share a playful, sarcastic camaraderie that feels genuine. They often exchange sharp, witty remarks, but there’s always an underlying affection in their interactions. Their lively banter adds authenticity to their friendship.

They often speak bluntly or jest with one another, understanding their banter isn’t rooted in ill intent. This is a characteristic of close friends who have deep familiarity with each other. It bears resemblance to a bond shared by sisters. To my younger self, Cher and Dionne represented the ultimate embodiment of cool female friendships.

In high school, I found the girls who exuded an aura of sophistication particularly appealing. However, I didn’t really delve into the intricacies of their friendships. Their wit and intelligence made them quite captivating to observe. If friendship doesn’t involve playful banter, what’s its purpose?

The Sharpness Of The Comedy Stands Out More

I’ve been engrossed in reading “Emma” for at least four years now, and I’m still only halfway through it (I’ll eventually finish). As of yet, the only adaptation of “Emma” I’ve watched is Clueless. From what I’ve gathered, it seems like a decent adaptation as it captures the sharp wit and humor found in the original novel quite well. Despite taking so long to complete the book, I genuinely enjoy reading it; its comedy is a significant part of why it’s such a delightful read for me.

Consequently, I find it fascinating that the witty sarcasm seen in Jane Austen’s works is echoed in the film Clueless. Initially, Cher’s blunt remarks and inner thoughts seem harsh, yet they are delivered in a captivatingly humorous and clever manner, reminiscent of Emma.

In addition, it helps Cher win over her audience effortlessly, even when she’s criticizing strongly. Similarly, I find myself with a similar warm affection for Emma in Jane Austen’s timeless classic.

Paraphrasing: Cher charms her audience naturally, including during harsh critiques. I feel the same fondness towards Emma from Jane Austen’s classic novel.

Clueless is unique with its humor, but it takes the essence of Emma and makes it fit that time.

I Realized How Positively It Shows Female Friendships, And Loved That About It

Absolutely, Dionne and Cher often displayed sharp words towards each other, but it was all rooted in affection. Despite Tai’s very unkind remark about being a virgin without driving skills, these ladies managed to reconcile. It seems that even minor issues were enough to spark conversation between them.

Friends sometimes need a break to spend time apart, which can lead them to feel remorseful and offer apologies. This is because in friendships, disagreements occasionally occur, but the bond often endures as they reconcile.

In contrast to certain teenage-centric films, “Clueless” presents friendships that seem complex yet not overtly harmful or toxic. These are young women, hence they aren’t paragons of virtue, but they also don’t intentionally inflict harm…they’re more absent-minded than malicious.

I Could Spot How Some Popular Movies May Have Been Influenced By It

It’s becoming apparent that films like “Mean Girls”, “Do Revenge”, and “The Duff”, among others, might have drawn inspiration from “Clueless”. In particular, “Mean Girls” shares several characteristics with this movie, such as an homage to the charm of mean-spirited girls.

In several aspects, Cady in one reality might resemble Tai from another. Similarly, Regina and Cher appear to be alternate forms of the same character in distinct realms. Both movies effectively depict the dismantling of social cliques and groups, suggesting a parallel universe connection between them.

Absolutely, “Clueless” is a movie that greatly influenced an era, serving as inspiration for numerous other films. It’s striking to me now more than it was when I first watched it during my youth, and many of the movies that inspire me were actually made well after “Clueless” became so widely popular.

I Always Loved The Clueless Fashion, But I Really Noticed This One Thing About It

The classic film “Clueless” has consistently maintained its status as a fashion symbol. As a youngster, I yearned to don Cher’s outfits, and that desire persists even today. Interestingly enough, upon closer inspection, the movie incorporates numerous plaid garments in its wardrobe choices.

In the film, her iconic yellow checkered suit is unforgettable, yet there are numerous other attire sporting variations of this pattern throughout the movie. Despite my fondness for the costumes in the movie, it sparked a question: was plaid a trendy pattern during that period? Regardless, I have no doubt that the film influenced many to embrace the checkered look.

Did you miss the plaid fashion choices? I recommend you rewatch and keep an eye out for them. Chances are, you’ll spot at least one character wearing plaid in each scene.

I Think This Film Is An Ode To The Nice Guy In Many Ways

This film is undeniably one of the greatest romantic comedies, not only for its enchanting romance but also because it’s delightful to witness Cher choosing a man like Josh (played by Paul Rudd). He is not just an attractive male, but he’s also a genuine person with compassion, intelligence, and strong convictions. Although there are certain elements that might raise eyebrows – such as their age difference, his college status, and her being his ex-stepsister – these aspects can be overlooked. Essentially, Josh is a kind, admirable individual who wins the heart of the main character.

Many of the male characters in the film are actually quite charming. Murray (Donald Faison), for instance, tends to put on an act due to his and Dionne’s shared love for theatricality. However, even Cher can see that they are genuinely affectionate towards each other when they believe no one is looking. Additionally, Mr. Hall (Wallace Shawn) and Travis (Brecklin Meyer) also demonstrate kindness, ultimately winning over their female counterparts in the story. This narrative underscores the idea that girls don’t always go for the attractive or rebellious guy; sometimes they prefer a kind-hearted one.

Every time I watch Clueless, there’s always something new to appreciate within it.
