As a dedicated comic book enthusiast, it’s clear to see that the genre’s popularity continues to soar, with multiple shared universes vying for attention on the big screen. Recently, I’ve been thrilled to be part of this exciting world, stepping into the role of Clark Kent in James Gunn’s groundbreaking Superman – the first movie installment in Gods and Monsters. Amidst the chaos of filming this blockbuster, I can’t help but express my gratitude to my wife for her tireless care of our young child, ensuring that our family life remains stable despite my busy schedule.
Superman was a hit at the box office, and showed the vision co-CEO James Gunn had for the DCU as a whole. The cast of Superman was led by Corenswet, who has a young daughter with wife Julia Warner. In an interview with ET he spoke about trying to balance his movie with being a father, saying:
In truth, my wife deserves all the recognition because I’ve been working long hours, approximately 12 hours a day, which left her shouldering most of the responsibilities.
He undeniably maintained integrity. Despite Nicholas Hoult praising him for being charming with his kid on set, Corenswet made sure to acknowledge his co-star’s praise. While he devoted himself to embodying Superman, it was his wife who shouldered the majority of childcare responsibilities during filming, showcasing a remarkable teamwork. What an exemplary union!

Corenswet’s remarks provide a glimpse into the true experience of portraying the lead character in Superman. Prior to this, he had gained recognition through his roles in Hollywood and The Politician, both available on Netflix. However, embodying Clark Kent represented a new tier of dedication… one marked by particularly extended workdays.
During the same conversation, Corenswet delved deeper into parenting and explained that managing both parenting responsibilities and playing Superman aligns perfectly with his character’s distinctive challenges, as he put it.
Upon returning home, I felt a desire to contribute positively and participate actively. It’s refreshing Superman-like to spend the whole day soaring through the skies and battling villains, only to arrive home and find oneself dealing with spit-ups, and yes, changing diapers. Maintaining balance is key.
It’s possible that Superman, known for his rough around the edges yet compassionate nature (like a punk rock kind of kindness), could show similar qualities as a father figure. This has been depicted in various media already. However, whether this will be portrayed in the DC Universe remains to be seen. Additionally, David Corenswet’s real-life personality might influence how the character is portrayed.
At the moment, it’s uncertain when Superman will make his next appearance, but it seems highly likely that he’ll show up in an upcoming DC movie soon. Fingers crossed that Corenswet manages to juggle parenting and work more smoothly when that happens. After all, dreams can sometimes come true!
Currently, Superman’s film is running in cinemas, being one of the movies released in 2025. Following this, the upcoming DCU movie will be “Supergirl”, scheduled for release on June 26th, 2026.
