Brothel manager reveals the wild reasons why some women pay for sex – and the exotic acts they desire: ‘Very little surprises me, but that did’

Consider a man, midway through life, stepping into a dimly lit establishment, wrapped in a long coat, his gaze downcast, perhaps carrying a sense of regret or embarrassment.

But what about the women who dip their toes into the world of transactional sex?

In a surprising revelation, Catherine De Noire, a doctoral student who oversees a legal brothel in Western Europe, discloses that the sex workers under her supervision encounter more female clients than one might typically assume.

On an ordinary evening, De Noire, aged 31, typically receives around ten female patrons at her Amsterdam-inspired establishment. Many of these women attend with a partner, but it is by no means unusual to see single females among the clientele.

She notes that our club welcomes women as clients, even though approximately 99% of the visitors are male.

‘On an average night, we might have up to 10 female customers – compared to about 500 men.

‘It’s common for women to come accompanied by their male companions – whether boyfriends, spouses, or lovers. They often express interest in engaging in a threesome involving one of the ladies.’

In such scenarios, De Noire mentions that it’s often the case for a man to observe his partner with another woman, and similarly, the woman might be observed in a similar situation.

Recently, several couples have been reaching out to us, curious about whether our services extend to hiring a male escort, she notes.

however, at this moment, there are no male sex workers working here – yet, we welcome and consider the possibility.

In a different phrasing, at the age of 22, De Noire started overseeing brothels, and later acknowledged that while such women are relatively uncommon, they indeed do exist, as they hire sex workers for personal use.

She mentions that many haven’t engaged in sexual activities with another woman, yet they express curiosity about it. Additionally, she notes that women tend to seek the services of an escort rather than visiting a brothel.

In the realm of the sex trade, an escort is commonly understood to be a person – either male or female – hired for sexual services, who generally meets their client either at a hotel or at the client’s residence, as clarified.

Indeed, when women choose to pay for companionship, they often opt for escort services, whether it’s with female sex workers or male escorts, as opposed to going to brothels or nightclubs.

But De Noire has certainly seen her fair share of women walk through the doors of her club.

‘I remember one very specific group of girls visiting our club many years ago,’ she recalls.

‘They looked like Arabian princesses – or perhaps one princess with her entourage.’

In simpler terms, according to De Noire, these women spent some time at the club. Later on, they selected individual female escort services, and then proceeded to separate rooms to complete their transactions.

‘Later, I found out they were aristocratic young women from a particular culture,’ she explains.

In the custom of that particular nation, it seems a mature female figure is believed to initiate a young girl into the realm of sensuality or intimate relationships. However, I’m uncertain about the exact country as I can’t recall.

‘So they came to Europe to learn something about sex from professionals.’

According to De Noire, there were two Italian women in their mid-50s who visited the club and decided to watch a strip performance given by a mother and daughter team.

As a die-hard supporter with over a decade under my belt as the club’s manager, I thought I’d seen it all. But boy, was I wrong about this one!

Despite a significantly higher number of male patrons, De Noire acknowledges that female clients also bring their own distinct array of difficulties.

As a lifestyle expert, I feel it’s essential to clarify that not every encounter with a sex worker is the same. I personally haven’t come across any brothels specialized in providing an experience tailored towards women.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to highlight that certain activities can pose greater safety and hygiene concerns compared to heterosexual encounters using condoms. It’s essential to prioritize health and well-being by being mindful and informed about these practices.

She notes that frequently, a woman’s self-perception can be a significant obstacle. Some may believe they shouldn’t have to compensate for sexual encounters.

‘Paying for sex can make them feel desperate, or even ashamed.

However, after overcoming their initial hesitation, they typically find the same delight as men do – the sense of control, along with compensating someone for providing them pleasure and contentment.

‘And, most importantly, staying safe.’

De Noire expresses her personal preference by stating that she finds it more reassuring to engage professional escort services (gigolos) rather than encountering an unpredictable individual (a random guy at a bar), whose actions might pose potential risks.

On an ordinary evening, I, your dedicated hostess, am graced by over 500 enthusiastic visitors who flock to my haven. Defining a “typical” guest is nearly mission impossible, for the diversity and unique charm of each patron is what makes every gathering extraordinary.

She mentions that you might observe a conversation between a construction worker and a university student happening near an individual who could be a surgeon, affluent businessman, professor, taxi driver, or professional athlete.

‘Same with age – from 18 to 80. Motivations are equally diverse.

Some individuals may seek out role-play scenarios or activities outside of their usual sexual relationships, such as BDSM, group sex, anal play for men, female ejaculation, etc., due to desires they either can’t or choose not to fulfill with their current partners.

Some people prefer visiting brothels as it offers them a safer, less expensive alternative for casual encounters, compared to seeking partners in bars or dating apps like Tinder.

As an ardent enthusiast, I proudly proclaim that I oversee a captivating establishment reminiscent of the vibrant Amsterdam scene – a Laufhaus, which has garnered significant acclaim across Western Europe.

Customers walk through ‘a labyrinth-like space’ with about 100 rooms occupied by a sex worker.

At 7:00 pm, De Noire, one of around 60 full-time staff members, begins her night shift duty at the club where she works.

She revealed in a column in June that she earns about €6,000 (AU$10,500) a month.

Meanwhile, the brothel rakes in about €700,000 per month (about AU$1.2million).

Just as any organization does, the club consists of a Human Resources team, Financial Department (Accounting), Marketing sector, Maintenance crew, and Customer Service unit.

When De Noire isn’t overseeing the individuals engaged in their work at the venue (who earn a livelihood or additional income as sex workers), she dedicates her time to studying for her PhD in organizational psychology.
